In-Game Name: Kamina Jiha
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Position & Ship (first and second choice for position please):

Fiertia

First Choice: Gunner
Second Choice: Radio Ops

Appearance:

Kamina's goal is to stand out from the rest of the crowd in every way imaginable.  His wild blue hair and tribal tattoos that encircle his arms, chest, back, and neck certainly help his cause.  Most days he can be found lounging around on deck in loose black pants with red trim, a simple unbuttoned white shirt with the sleeves turned up, and black boots covered in buckles, one from each place he's traveled.  It's another story once he sets foot on shore or in battle.  The white shirt is exchanged for an old, ragged, but well-taken care of red cape with orange ends made to look like a raging fire.  On the back of the cape is a symbol of Kamina's father, a flaming skull wearing shades.  He too wears these same shades in battle, which are large, orange and quite garish.  You would think he'd keep from wearing them as it would make him a sitting duck in the middle of battle, but he'd never think of wearing anything else.  You'll have to take them off his dead body.

Personality:

Speaking of fights, that’s what Kamina does.  He fights no matter what.  When something seems impossible, he’ll continue to try until he’s successful or dead.  One of his personal mottos is “Surpass the impossible and kick reason the curb”.  He’s a natural leader.  When he speaks, it’s always loud, grandiose, and evolves from a simple statement into a speech extolling the values of perseverance and self-belief.   During his quiet moments, however, Kamina isn’t so self-assured.  His elevated bravado masks his fear that he isn’t taken seriously among his peers.  He tells one of his closest friends that in an impossible situation, he did not show his anxiety because “he didn’t want that back [his ‘soul brother’ Simon] to laugh at him.”  He has an intense need to prove himself so he does foolhardy things and goes through with half-baked plans, but they always seem to work themselves out with his bravery (or stupidity, it depends on who you ask) and stubbornness.

Above all, he wants everyone around him to reach their greatest potential.  Seeing someone beat themselves up or brood sends him into a fury.  It’s not possible to do the best you can when you feel sorry for yourself.  Those on the receiving end usually get a punch to the face and a proclamation that they better get it together or the next punch will hurt even more.  It’s20Kamina’s way of showing that he really cares for someone, even if it hurts a bit.

Abilities/Weapons:

Kamina has two weapons.  He's the proud owner of a long katana that he won in a fight when he was just a kid.  It's served him well throughout his time as a sailor.  He also owns a small pistol that he takes with him while he's on shore.  Other than being a decent fighter and having a large amount of stamina, he has no special abilities to speak of.

How well can your character hack?:

This will be Kamina's first expperiences with an electronic journal so his hacking ability will be nonexistent.

Weaknesses:

It's that same bravery that can prove to be his downfall.  As mentioned before, he won't retreat even in the face of defeat, and he's got some nasty scars to prove it.  He will try to defeat the enemy again and again.  It doesn't matter if he dies.  They'll remember that he took them on to the last minute.  If the captain orders a retreat, he's going to follow orders just be warned that he's going to angry and moody for a good while.

History:

For a man of such bright burning spirit, Kamina started in the most humble of beginnings.  He was born in the back of a two-room hospital in Abantiare to a pair of struggling newlyweds.  His father was once a successful sailor from Tulgim who once travelled as he pleased until he stopped in Abantiare for a rest.  He met Kamina's mother in the street five minutes after stepping off his boat and he never got back on.  They married six months later.  Like most natives of Abantiare, Kamina's mother came from the lower portion of the middle class.  Plagued with a sickly nature, she couldn't work as many hours as her husband and was often forced to stay at home in order to recover from bouts of respiratory sickness.  She became pregnant with Kamina only two months after their marriage.  It didn't do much for health, morning sickness usually turning into week long bouts of coughing and fever.  Kamina's father tried to stay home as much as possible and money grew tight in the growing household.

The night he was born (11:00 PM on the dot), the midwife declared he wouldn't make it through the week.  He was too skinny, too pale.  This was Kamina's first instance of doing the impossible.  Not only did he survive, he grew into one of the more active, healthy boys on his street.  His parents couldn't have been prouder.  They scraped together as much money as they could over the years in the hope that they could move to a place with cleaner air and better opportunities for their son and themselves. Six years after his birth, there was finally enough in their piggy bank to afford a decent house where one could always see the sun.

It was to be a dream deferred.  Kamina's mother grew sick from extended hours at work and she was much too fraigle to move at=2 0the time.  They awaited the day she would get better with anticipation.

She died after two weeks of fighting.

Kamina and his father left the city soon after.  They used half of their money to give their loved one a decent burial and another half to catch a ride by ship to Colvus.  One of Kamina's most beloved memories is the first time he set foot on a ship and saw clean air for the first time.  There was no soot, no deafening sound of factories, no despondent civilians; only clean air, endless sky, and opportunity for all.  It was also the first time he had seen his father smile since his mother died.  They felt that this was home.  The voyage was over much too soon, and the both of them set to work on renting land and starting up their own farm. For a time, everything was fine.  The farm did well, they paid their rent on time, and they had made friends in the neighborhood.

There were those times though that Kamina would catch his father staring into space for minutes at a time or see the longing look in his eyes whenever a ship flew overhead.  A year after settling down, Kamina's father woke him up at sunrise and asked him a question that he would always remember.

"Are you coming?"

He didn't have to ask.  He knew what he meant.  To go on a great ship and never come down, to fly forever to be among the same clouds his mother rested on.

Kamina was too afraid to go.

0AHis father simply patted him on the head, took him to a nearby neighbor's, and told him, "Come find me when you're ready."  That is the last Kamina has seen of his father in twelve years.

But that didn't stop him.  He knew that to be a man his father was proud of, he would have to start training from that very moment.  He could often be found running or picking fights with the other boys around town or getting into some kind of trouble while running or picking fights with the other boys.  He won his katana in a fight with an 18 year old at the age of 12, got his tattoos at 15, and started looking for a way out of Colvus at 16.  There was no way become a true man in such a little place.  He spent his nights fiddling and fine-tuning a small radio in the hopes that he'd hear something about his hero.  At 17 years old, Kamina hit the road.  Or the sky in this case.  He worked as a powder monkey on ships of various repute.  He's learned all there is to know about ships in his two years in the sky.

Time to show the crew of Fiertia what burning spirit is all about!
