The trek back up to their apartment had taken longer than usual because Arthur had had to sit down on the stairs and take a moment for himself. That had been the fourth job he had applied for only to be turned down. This week alone ( ... )

"Any luck?" He asked, like he hadn't been trying to slip out the door before Arthur got back.
Arthur didn't look happy. Daniel had gotten into the habit of leaving an hour and a half earlier than he needed to, so there was time if Arthur wanted to hash out again.
Not that Daniel enjoyed arguing with his twin.

He was slow to follow his twin to the kitchen, arms folded in front of his chest, still watching Daniel. He took in how his brother had been taking to wearing much tighter clothes than either of them usually did. It wasn't anything to really argue about except it didn't sit well with Arthur when the other would go out for hours at a time and dressed like that only to return late and constantly change the subject when Arthur asked him for answers.
When he spoke again, his tone made it clear he was going to get some answers this time, one way or another. "Where do you keep sneaking off to?"
And if his brother wanted to deny it, Arthur was ready with a mental list of proof.

Daniel would have told Arthur plainly, he knew, if not for the fact that Arthur had gotten hurt at a party a few years ago - assaulted. Raped, he thought but never voiced. And he didn't want Arthur in any danger, in any business that was physical and sexual. He knew it was hypocritical to want that and then place himself in that same business, but that was how it was.
He took a sip of his soda and then gave Arthur an incredulous look. "I'm not sneaking around. I'm going to work," he said, feigning confusions.
