Saw the Dollhouse series finale.
The entire cast gave excellent performances, especially Olivia Williams, Alan Tudyk, and Eliza Dushku, but it was Fran Kranz who truly broke my heart.
With so little time, not everything got wrapped up. I hated Boyd's resolution. It felt cheap, and very much deus ex machina. I understand, no time left, and I forgive. I'm just saying.
Most frustrating of all for me is the lack of a conclusion for Claire Saunders' storyline. Who was she before the Dollhouse? Who was she to Topher? I hope her past will come out at a fan convention panel or something. I know, Amy Acker was filming Happy Town and the timing just didn't work out, but I've found her character interesting from the beginning, and I just hate not knowing her background.
Side note: Did anyone besides me feel like several parts of this ep were huge shout-outs to Serenity? The whole shooting from the back of the truck while being pursued by Reavers Butchers ... heck, in many of the scenes you could've replaced one term with the other ... even down to the mention of Butchers eating each other. Speaking of Serenity, some of the fans mentioned how they could see this ending as the
beginning of the origin world for Firefly's verse.
I wish people had given this show more of a chance.
Here's hoping that Whedon's next endeavor is able to reach full blossom, unhindered.
