It is a day I have never liked, even when I was with someone. It feels forced and awkward, and it is, to me, an irritating commercial holiday designed to make others feel inadequate. It makes people in relationships feel like they should make grand romantic gestures, and people who aren't in relationships just feel plain bad.

Luckily, my favorite holiday, St. Patrick's Day, is coming up soon. No gifts to buy, no weirdness and an excuse to drink. And I am part Irish, and Damn proud of it.

My lady friend and I tend to ignore V Day for similar reasons. Though I did send her flowers this year with a card that read "Your rack is unreal" show she could laugh with her coworkers. :)

I &hearts St. Patrick's day too. Irish people win!

as one co-worker said to me,
it isn't love day, it is
"singles awareness day"

though seriously, I have protested against the days commercialism greatly, but also dated many that just don't wait for valentines day to say I love you, or get me something that actually represents true love... so I could take or leave the day, (hmmm, I think several times I have insisted on girls night or some such thing)
This time, I went to martial arts class, and then stopped by the boys house for a quick check on him...
he broke his promise not to do anything for the day, but then again.. he just likes me, so an ordinary day could have surfaced that same three course meal...

Just saying, we don't so much need to get rid of the day, we need more people that aren't waiting for that one day of the year to show it, or do something sweet.
Of course, you don't have someone super special, it is social pressure to not show the day matters or doesn't matter...
so yeah...
[hangs her head]
as I was saying...
Happy belated Singles awareness day.

You could rename it "Icecream for Dinner" day. I did. It was enjoyed by all.
