The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory (Bloody Mary was never so understandable, but this actually got across how she might have been a woman to feel compassion towards even if not a diehard Catholic. Also explores the life of Jews hiding out in Tudor England, adn John Dee before his rise with Elizabeth, and shows Dudley as more of a 3d character ( Read more... )

70. The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. How had I not heard of these before?! Detective novels for the classics student, with wonderful lit characters sprinkled about, and evil empire, and a wonderful down to earth kick-ass heroine, Thursday Next. Have already started the second, Lost in a Good Book.

You'll be done with the current four in time to read the fifth, First Among Sequels, when it comes out July 24th!
