Today was Xander's birthday, and Saffron had been planning for weeks to make sure it was his best yet. She'd made him take the day off from everything, and she'd done the same, so they could spend it together. In the morning he'd woken up to breakfast in bed, followed by a nice, lengthy - well, dessert, of sorts. They'd gone for a picnic lunch on ( Read more... )

Saffron circulated through the party, making sure everyone was having a good time, Xander especially. She laughed and chatted with her guests, refilling drinks here and there, occasionally stopping by Bill's corner to make a request or give him a refill. The party seemed to be going well, which she was very glad for, since her man deserved it as far as she was concerned. And no matter what she was doing, her gaze would inevitably drift over to that man, just to make sure he still had a smile on his face. That, right there, meant more than anything to her.

Ray only started to panic after a couple of drinks, when he actually realized Helen had thrown the party for her boyfriend. Did Asher expect the same kind of treatment come August? Ray didn't really think Asher was a limelight kinda guy but if he didn't do something like this, maybe he'd risk seeming like he couldn't be bothered.

"So did you plan this in secret or...?" Ray asked once he'd caught Helen alone. He hoped it wasn't obvious that he was fishing for tips.

Saffron smiled and shook her head. "I thought about making it a surprise, but it would have been too difficult setting everything up here without him finding out unless I had someone else do it for me," she replied. "Which I didn't want to do, so he knew about it."

Ray nodded in understanding, gazing down as he gently swirled the drink in his hand.

"And if you'd, y'know, wanted to do something more low key...what would you have done?"

Rachel had showed up to the party the best way she knew how. A slutty dress, her boyfriend in tow, and a bottle of some heinous moonshine.

After wishing a very happy birthday to the birthday boy, she sets the bottle down, a large glass in hand and starts to mingle.

Of course Guy was there. His favourite student (not in the least because at night he took off his clothes for a living), was celebrating his birthday. He wished the birthday boy a happy one with a big smootch on the cheek that he wasn't able to prevent and looked around.

It wasn't a bad party. They were horribly lacking in the drinks department, but Guy had brought his own just in case.

"Guy...did you seriously bring your own booze to my birthday party?" Xander asked as he spotted Guy refilling his glass, shaking his head with a laugh.

“You were distastefully lacking in that respect. No man should attend a party without adequate nourishment.” He lifted the bottle. “Want some?”

"I'll make sure to bring it up with Helen for next time." Then he politely raised a hand to decline. "No thanks. Not big on adequate nourishment. I'll leave that to you."

Last year on this day, Xander had been sitting on the beach alone with a stolen bottle of booze lamenting all that he'd lost.

It was amazing what a year could do. And this was definitely an improvement. Helen had gone all out to throw him a birthday party with all his closest friends on the island. It was...the best thing he could ask for.

"Hey, birthday boy," Saffron said as she slipped up next to Xander with a fond smile. The difference in their ages, brought to mind with the occasion, might have bothered some, but Saffron wasn't terrible concerned about it. It wasn't like she hadn't gone for younger, after all. "Are you enjoying your party?"

When Xander thought about dating older women, his mind immediately went to his psycho praying mantis teacher, not Helen. He had no idea why his brain had this disconnect so to solve this he just refused to think about it.

He was dating the hottest woman on the island and that was all that mattered to him. He turned to give her a kiss before answering, "I'm having a great time. Have a thank you enough yet for this?" Because really, Xander was more then blow away. It was easily the biggest birthday party he'd ever had.

She reached a hand up to cup his cheek when he kissed her and let it linger there for a moment once the kiss ended. "I think that smile on your face says it all, honey," she replied. "I'm just glad I was able to pull this together for you. You deserve the best party there is."
