I can't wait until we get to play baseball, but please. Johan Santana is Johan Santana. We have the best rotation in the NL East. It's a trickle-down effect that will happen because of this acquisition. We have more confidence now. The rest of the league's in denial.

Best rotation? I'd take three horses like Hudson-Smoltz-Glavine over ~*SANTANA!!*~ & Pedro, who, while he can be electric, is he going to give you a lot of innings like he used to be able to? No. Is he even going to be HEALTHY all year? And who's the third, Maine? Perez? Perez is...you can't even know what Perez is going to be, if he's going to throw a CG 4-hit or walk 10 guys. Maine had an All-Star first half last year, no doubt about that at all, but he did drop off the second half. Can he stay effective the whole year ( ... )

I don't really want to explain myself to you or comment to whatever you wrote up there (I'll dabble in some, but I skimmed through most of it). You go on thinking the way you think and I'll go my merry way, but I know my team better than you do and understand baseball in my way that I find satisfactory enough to understand how much someone like Santana would impact the rest of the team mentally and in other ways.

I mean, I remember Rollins saying something about the Phils being the team to beat and winning the division. And he said the Phils would win 100 games this coming year and all. So yeah. And if Santana joined the Phils, my goodness. Watch out.

But the Mets' rotation is better. It's a general consensus between the analysts and beat writers. Name me another team with two young 15-game winners with upsides. Or someone like El Duque as a number five. Don't analyze Maine and Perez, please. God, whatever that was up there was so general and stupid. You haven't watched them enough. You don't follow my team enough ( ... )

To be fair to the Phils, they had roughly equal home/road records last year

Exactly. And I checked other teams that play in lil' ballparks, like Cincy and their HR/Run splits are in favor of home by a LARGE MARGIN.

If you look at the Phillies individual numbers, there is nothing outstanding that supports that the Phillies would do worse would they play in PetCo or whatever. Actually, they averaged 7 runs a game in the series in San Diego, and that was WITH one of the games being shut out by Chris Young.

People can go DIAF for all I care.

C&P'd from my post:

The Mets got Santana for pretty much nothing (they may turn out to be decent players but they're all too young to even think that yet). All of a sudden the Mets are the favorite to win the NL East... which I honestly don't understand. Yes, Santana's great, but he needs a team around him to win. The rest of the Mets rotation is Pedro (old & coming off an ARM INJURY), John Maine (meh), Oliver Perez (lightning in a bottle) & El Duque (ancient). The position players are old, too, with the exception of Wright & Reyes. I just think it's way too early to crown the Mets division champions -- don't forget they completed the biggest choke in baseball history last year, & much of that same team returns. Let's wait till they play the games on the field, no?GOD I WISH PEOPLE WOULD STFU. I swear to God the Mets are becoming more annoying than the Yankees. I never, ever thought that would happen. Fuck New York ( ... )

Yeah, they were supposed to dominate with Pedro in 05, too. Oops.

I mean, I watched my 83 win team win the World Series, when they were supposed to get destroyed.

Exactly. I think the Phillies, Braves, heck even Marlins are better as teams. You wanna talk individual talent? Maybe not so much with the Marlins (they need to figure themselves out defensively), but the other two, yes. Johan Santana is not a team. He is a single player.

And to those who say the Phillies pitching staff is so awful? Their 11 straight wins against the ALMIGHTY METS last year? only ONE of those games was started by Cole Hamels. Yes, I can totally see the Phillies have no pitching besides Hamels, and the Mets can shut down any offense. Of course.

I'm also curious to know how he'll do at the plate in sacrifice situations...
/randomly thought of that.
