Dumpty

Last weekend was Hump, and it was fantastic! Mostly.

It was a good time, and I was very happy to be there with Ginger, Jen, Raymond, et al. Phillip and Alte, our actors, both made it to the screening. The movies that were shown ran quite a gamut. Humping couches, animated Alien on Predator action, Memento-styled gay porn, zombie love slave action (in a bathtub of tapioca), some dirty bobblehead action, surprisingly erotic robot doggies licking each other, and so forth. A lot was wonderfully funny. Some was disturbing. And some was just a waste of time!

We didn't win the prize. First place in "humor" went to Queer Safari, a Steve Irwin-styled expedition into Seattle's parks to document gay stereotypes. First place in "hardcode" was Lauren Loves Candy, which was an intense S&M pain session where Mistress Candy, uh, hurts Lauren.

The really bad news is that our movie, A Well-Oiled Machine was edited for time. But they didn't tell Jen beforehand. Jen had spent a lot of time editing the film and overlaying the music so that it lined up at specific points. She made a lot of effort to ensure that the movie came in under the eight-minute time limit that was part of the submission guidelines. When she saw her movie chopped up and altered without any notification, she was pissed. It really sucked. I can kind of understand why The Stranger needed to trim some of the submissions to ensure as many as possible were shown. But it still sucks that they didn't tell Jen beforehand. She says she would have pulled her film rather than have it shown as it was. In her words, the movie shown at Hump was not her movie. It was pieces of her movie.

The overall experience was fantastic. I have a couple of ideas for my own film next year. We'll see if I make one!
