what do you mean by a play yard? like a babybed with bars but with a low bottom and bigger where you can let them play but also a quick nap?
if so oscar did spend a lot of time in there...
ours was on wheels so when oscar wouldn't be intrested in just sitting while cooking for example we put him in there so he could see us and play but was safe too

aw, thanks! :) a play yard is basically the same thing as a play pen, but the one i picked has an insert type thingy that turns it into a napping place too; here, it looks like this:

if you click on the picture, it gives you several different views of it. but i'm trying to find a mini-sized one so that it can travel easier. :)

yeah that's what i thought it was
oscar spend a bunch of time in there for his first year
then afterwards it was more a storageplace for his toys
its handy once they start crawling and such and you need to get something done and still want to have them near you

lol i can't put my swollen feet in boots... i'm trying to just let it all go. the most important thing is to make sure my son is the right size, and i know stress doesn't help that. :)
