perfumery

Adding the rest of my reviews to the LJ system. Because yesterday I went "King of Hearts? I had that? I didn't put a review up ... uh ..."

Cathode "ambergris, Spanish Moss, oakmoss, and three electric mints"

It's a lightly watery scent at first, but then morphs into a kind of earthy/minty blend. I don't find the mint as strong as some reviewers did? Like, not as strong as actual mint leaves. I think of a forest just after it rains with this scent. But I reeeally like how the mint and the moss go together.

King of Hearts "rosewood and black cherry with white musk, red rose, red musk, and a spark of lavender"

I could actually smell lavender with this scent! All the other times the lavender was obscured by another, stronger note. But when I put on King of Hearts, the lavender is overtaken by the rose scent. And when dry, it gets a kind of dry fruit smell that isn't dried fruit; like the dry branches and flowers that you see in home decor stores. It also goes "soapy" and "powdery" on me. I've read reviews that mentioned that effect on other scents but it never happened to me. Now I know what it means! I don't think I like it, so I gave it to teleute12.

Moscow imperial rose, carnation, lush jasmine, lily of the valley, dark musk, amber, bergamot, and gilded tangerine"

One word: jasmine. If any of the other notes make an appearance, I cannot tell because my skin amps up the jasmine and I hate hate hate that smell.

Poisson d'Avril "lenten rose, Virginia bluebell, primrose, moss phlox, blue crocus, daffodil, and dewy tulip with a touch of sugar blossom and honey"

At first this seemed more like a "traditional" perfume: light, floral, sweet. When I put it on my skin it smelled watery in a way that is similar to Amsterdam, but without the nose-tickling grass notes. There's a lot of floral in this one, and I really can't tell the notes apart -- BUT WHO CARES, they are all good together! All the notes smell "fresh" and not overly sweet and cloying, which is perfect.

White Rabbit "strong black tea and milk with white pepper, ginger, honey and vanilla, spilled over the scent of clean linen"

I tried this at Telly's house and liked it so much she let me take it. Strangely I got a lot of black tea yesterday, but today I'm getting more ginger and pepper! The tea is more in the background. I can also smell the vanilla, but it's a good, toned-down quality; it simply makes the smell a little sweet without overpowering me. It also does smell a little... milky? idk, but it makes me wish this was a real tea.
