meh, you are nicer than I am.
I HATE when people formula feed, i think its viewed as an equal form of feeding and its NOT.
so why is it so ok with everyone????

I feel the same way as you do...I really do (though I didnt until I did research when Kahlan was born) - I just dont feel like arguing with everyone all the time. I bite my tongue, and say it could be much worse...

it could be, you are right.
I try not to get hung up about it when the choice is made and the damage is done...but it makes me so sad and angry inside.
Breastfeeding is normal, plain and simple.
It is not thats its better than formula, its that formula is worse.
I get giddy when I see moms in real life nursing (especially older babies)
I even approached a mom at a wedding in august whose son reminded me SO much of gage (and about the same age) beause I ntoiced he was still nursing and I wanted her to know how trhilled I was.
i think she truly appreciated it as most people think its too old.

I had actually never thought of thate whole its not that breastmilk is better, its that formula is worse until I met latemove...but it makes complete sense and I wish places like the hospital and lll would approach it this way. Instead of making it a choice one or the other...it should be...well if you pick formula then you're already short changing your child kind of thing.

how long did you nurse your lo's for? I'm really hoping to just let kahlan wean herself...but am wondering if self weaning actually happens...

Think of it this way, some breastfeeding is much better than none. In my area, only 30% of women attempt breastfeeding in the hospital, and only 10% are still breastfeeding after 6 months. Only 1-2% depending on which report you look at are still breastfeeding after a year.

My plan is to try breastfeeding and see how it goes, I hope to nurse for about the first year until my son doesn't need it any more. I think it would be a bit silly of me to stop nursing to formula feed, but I have no real desire to breastfeed a toddler that doesn't need breastmilk or formula to be healthy. It is great for people that want to do it, but I don't think it will be for me (But I may be forced to eat my words later, you never know).
