Good Morning Everyone :) I actually finished a really dreadful book last week, The Beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B and saw The Last Exorcism on Sunday (reviews ahoy!) Also, a big thanks to
ataone - I got your package, that was very sweet of you!
The Beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B
This was another book club choice, and I didn't enjoy it much. I found it very vulgar and crude, a bit funny for circumstances, but overall, just a lot of potty humour. Not worth a read, if you ask me. The story just follows this guy from birth-to-death and he really doesn't do much with himself. It was sort of sad, in that respect. I gave it
one out of five stars on Shelfari.
and the review for the horror movie ;)
The Last Exorcism
This movie makes claims that it doesn't quite keep, but it's close. The premise of the movie is the main character doesn't really believe in God or the Devil, and exorcises people to give them piece of mind, never truly believing anything is wrong. As the story would go, he gets a request (and he's doing a documentary) and says, we'll follow it through and show that there's no such thing. This is of course a macbre set-up and you should know what comes next.
SPOILERY
He takes the film crew with him and they go to this farm out in the middle of nowhere in the stix of Louisiana and they meet a family and he promises to exorcise the demon from the girl, the priest does. He uses slight of hand and magic to convince them they need it, then he performs the rites and it's 'gone' from her. They leave the farm and this is where it starts to get creepy.
He's in his hotel room, the camera goes black, because the camera guy has turned it off, not because he got killed, and the next thing we see is the girl in the priest's room. She didn't even know what hotel they were staying at! They take her to the hospital and long story short, the end up at the house again. Craziness continues to ensue until the leave and come back a third time, I think, and the girl who's supposedly upset attacks her brother. The dad has to leave the film crew with the girl and it just gets crazier and crazier from there.
I don't want to give too much away, because it is a lot of fun - but think Blair Witch Project for scariness and shaky cam ;) Totally worth seeing in the theatre!!
so...unrelated - I'm at the 22nd day of fasting and have gone 22 for 22 - mom and I are in a dead heat for 1st in the house. Dad's been disqualified for not fasting while in India. I could get close to first this time, but a solid second would be nice :)
also, changed my layout - something different seemed like a good idea :)
Also, got a tease from
x_cursive about making the icons she owes me from the
help_chile auction. Six months later, she replies and apologises, but never replies to the last message...if she hadn't said anything, I probably would have let it go...now I'm involved again...seriously? whatever...have a good week everyone!
