Another late night post, I know, but I just finished Devil in the White City and according to Shelfari, this is only the third book I've read this year...I really need to finish all these books that are hanging over my head ;)
The Devil in the White City
I've read one other book by Erik Larson and this is just as good, if not better! Erik Larson's style is that of a detective, he takes real life events, researches what happens and then dramatises it. There is some question in my mind about how 'true' these scenarios are - but it still makes the history leap off of the page.
The book chronicles the Chicago's World Fair and a mass murderer, both of which existed at the same time in the same place. Larson makes it seem like the two will cross paths, but I'll tell you now it doesn't happen. However, it is a great book and a great read. The story follows all the impossibilities the World's Fair had to go through to come to fruition and how this unseemly man goes about killing people under the attraction of the Fair.
Larson keeps the reader on the edge of his/her seat and the villain is truly enigmatic and the Fair is unfathomable. I don't know if I'm explaining this at all well, but I really enjoyed it and I wish I had more time to read so I could take in more of his books. They are always thoroughly researched and it shows.
I may go see some movies this weekend, but otherwise have little else to really 'note' - I am feeling good and enjoying life, hope you all are too!
