[ Socks! It's certainly a practical gift, but the only reason he's objecting is because they're so plain. Come on, island, couldn't you at least made them colorful? They're plain white, for goodness sake!

Clearly, the best way to deal with this is set up a tye-dye station. Don't ask him why he has the supplies readily on hand; he won't answer that question anyway. ]

[Presents AND colorful things--? You activate all the stupid-kid parts of his brain, he'll curiously wander over!]

Oh, uh, hi, Mister! C-Can I ask what yer doin'? [it looked fun!]

Hmm? Oh, hello there! [ He smiles a little, casually holding a sock in the dye while looking up at him. If it soaks too much in he can just say he's taking some creative liberties. ] I'm tye-dying! White is such a plain color, meant only to be a canvas for color!

[what is this artsy, hippie nonsense, Ethan's a farm boy-- the only art he knows is painting Apricorns to be tree ornaments for the holidays]

Whatsa tye-dying?

[ Well, well, well, isn't this a nice surprise? Bertha literally just arrived on the island moments ago, and suddenly she's finding a present with her name on it! She laughs aloud (she needed a new pair of socks, anyway), a bit of her worry gone just like that.

... but only a little bit. There's still the newcomer confusion, after all! ]

[Cynthia had already found a better use for her present and made a pair of sock Pokemon with it - or, well, at least she had tried with whatever materials she had found. And yet, a certain jubilee Pokemon of hers didn't seem entirely pleased with the results.]

Oh, come on, sweetheart, it doesn't look that bad... [Said as she toyed around with a sock Togekiss missing a pair of wings. Don't worry, Bertha, she'll totally help you settle in, really! She just needs to, well, see you there first.]

[ Don't worry, darling, Bertha's got plenty of time. Seeing her not!daughter like this brings a rather cheerful smile to her face and she doesn't have the heart to interrupt yet.

... though the sock Pokemon are cute and in the back of her head she muses if she can make a Hippowdon somehow. ]

[ And to finish up the mini Connie chain is Norman! He has been gone for a long time, but now he's back and he is most definitely not willing to explain himself on that one. It's something that he rather put far, far behind him.

When he unwraps his gift and sees the socks, he... actually smiles a little. Really? It's so incredibly mundane and stupid and yet seeing the folded pair of socks in the box is makes him a little bit happy. There's no explosions, tricks, or anything. Just socks.

The best things in life are sometimes the simplest... right? ]

[Ethan has all the ones marked 'Red' in a big pile! Do you have a favorite color or something?]

Oh, hey, Mister Hero Red!

{Red is a pretty nice color...So are green and Blue though. The challenge continues.}

... ...You don't have to call me a hero.

[That would make it difficult to tell, considering just how many Red's the island have]

Oh, really, Mister, uh, just Red?

[Plassica notices the socks, and checks if there's any fancy about them to make her consider replacing her stockings with them.]
