[If there's one question Maxie isn't about to ask, it's why. He knows that this particular section of the island tends to have that effect on people - he that knows very well.
It's why he's here, after all.
Though he supposes he should be startled, the fact is that he isn't; hostility is another possible reaction, but really? There's not really much that registers outside of 'fucking finally'. Archie is here, and this one is familiar.
As it should be, really.
However, he's not about to go greet him personally; he'll stay on the beach, thank you.]
[If it were encasing them, Maxie wouldn't like it either; however, caves and formations of earth and rock are familiar to him - he knows their integrity. How much they can take and what will cause collapse, what can be manipulated and what can't. How best to avoid claustrophobic situations.
However close the walls of caves might become, it's nothing compared to their time in the Kaien I; by the end of that, he had damn near been a basket case. The quarters had been too close, and they were surrounded by nothing but water and the threat of drowning, should something malfunction. Either that or running out of a viable air supply. No matter how he looks at it, even now, the ocean is nothing but a constant threat of slow suffocation.
Maxie hates the idea of suffocation.
Of course, Archie never needs to know that - Archie really doesn't need tips on how best to make him suffer. But for the time being, he's content here. He knows Archie's probably not going to like it; he can't say that he cares.]It's good to see that you're feeling so
( ... )
Oh? I don't suppose you're going to elaborate, are you?
[[Archie shifts over to the wall, before seating himself against it, legs extended with one crossed over the other, hands resting calming in his lap.]]
[Well, as long as they're being casual, Maxie will just settle himself against the adjacent wall; he keeps one leg tucked beneath him and draws the other close against his chest, leaving his arms wrapped around his knee where it's bent up and linking his fingers together loosely.]
Things simply seem to happen here. There's not really another way to describe it. Sometimes you wake up having things that you didn't have before. Items, usually. They say the island provides. I find that it does.
[He shoots a pointed glance at that rather intact jacket of his.]
Once in a while it does things to people - they say it alters behavior, makes them act strangely. I can't say that I've seen that.
[...well, he hasn't seen the behavior part, anyway. Let's just leave out the cat ears for now.]

It's about time, Archie.

I thought you might enjoy getting your own. My mistake.

[[He looks inside for a moment, running his hand along the wall, before turning.
Despite that month chilling in the Cave of Origin, he hates the bloody things. Earth, encasing him....it's disgusting.
But he will tolerate it.]]
Any suggestions?

Well it certainly sounds like I've made it to an interesting place, despite the rather sub-par living quarters and company.

Arguably those are the same circumstance.]
You're more than welcome to find your own way around this 'interesting place', you know.

I wouldn't want to deny you the pleasure of my company.
