This is basically a two-hundred-word canon joke. If you read Green (or Blue)'s lines from right before he fights Red on the S. S. Anne (before you get HM 01), you'll see that Green starts by saying, "BONJOUR!" Because...obviously one speaks French when they are on a boat, I suppose. He says it in both RBY and FRLG.

Kuruk just wanted an elaboration of that, basically. I hope that makes more sense to you? Sorry for any confusion.

Yeah, I guess I can see that; though I actually don't remember the bit about the French. That's probably just because it's been years since I played the Kanto games, though. Still a cute story.
