“Scully, what are you doing here?” Mulder leaned against his open apartment door. “I thought you’d be halfway through a warm, cozy Christmas dinner.”

“I couldn’t stop thinking about how you’re all alone,” she told him honestly.

He smiled a bit. “Aw, Scully, I’m not alone. I’ve got the ‘you’ll shoot your eye out kid’ on my television.”

“You should come to my mother’s,” Scully said.

“You know I don’t want to do that,” he replied. She already had asked him about it a week ago.

“I don’t understand why. It’s not-”

“Because I don’t want to intrude,” Mulder cut her off.

“You’re not intruding,” she tried to assure him.

“I’m afraid of your brothers.”

“Mulder.”

“They’ll blame me for all the work woes they hear about.”

Scully shook her head. “No, they won’t. Come on. You can have some eggnog, open some gifts-”

“I don’t like eggnog. And you don’t have any gifts-”

She pulled out a wrapped box from behind her back and handed it over to him.

“I knew I couldn’t talk you into it.” She pushed her way inside.

“You don’t have to stay.”

Scully turned and locked eyes with him. “But I want to.”
