It wasn’t that she thought the world was full of bad people. But if there was anything she had learned from working on the X-Files, it was that things may be different from what they appeared to be.
Her trust in herself, others, and the world around her changed the longer she worked with Mulder on the X-Files. She had a realization, early on, that her view of what she understood was becoming distorted.
The moment she was aware that she could only trust Mulder was both frightening and amazing. It frightened her to think that there was no one else out there she could trust for fear that they were not who they said they were, or that they would turn against her.
And it amazing. It was an amazing notion that she could rely on someone so completely. There was someone in her life that, without a single ounce of doubt, she could go to in any moment and would be assured she was safe.
It frightened her and amazed her and gave her a sense of comfort she wouldn’t find anywhere else.
