Title: Morty's Day
Rating: G
Verse: Gameverse
Characters: Morty, Eusine
Summary: for pleuvoir! Happy holidays!

As much of a free spirit as Morty was, his day was surprisingly regimented. He would wake up at 7 on the dot, shower (ten minutes, medium warm), dress, have breakfast (rice and miso, or if he was feeling adventurous, toast with jam), take the same way to the temple (the route that went past the dance hall and the lake, approx. 20 minutes), and arrive at 8 on the dot. He would perform the normal rituals in half an hour, then say his private prayers to Ho-Oh for the next ten minutes. Then he would head into the forest and train until noon, and then it was Gym time. He would get home at nine, unwind for an hour, shower again, and go to sleep at ten-thirty.

The days went on like that, with hardly anything disrupting them. It was how he liked things.

It was why he dealt with ghosts too. Ghosts were exciting, out of the ordinary simply by being themselves, and required nothing additional to be strange.

Morty didn't consider himself an ordinary man, despite his schedule. But that was part of it. He didn't need to do anything else. His strangeness stood on its own.

But one day, fate took him by the hand. Or rather, a brazen young man from Kanto did.

Morty had just arrived at the Gym and was lighting the candles along the path when the doors burst open. "You!" a voice came from the entryway, against the brightness of full sunlight outside the dark room.

As Morty's eyes adjusted, he could make out an elaborately dressed person with an outstretched arm, finger pointing in his direction. "Oh, here for a challenge?" he asked casually. "I'm setting up, but you're welcome to challenge my sub-trainers in the meantime. It'll be just a-"

But the man strode in, navigating the clear walkway with ease until he grabbed Morty by the wrist. "You've researched Suicune, haven't you?" he asked in a disturbingly normal tone. "I must find others who've done so, especially in this place!"

Morty was struck silent for a moment before he could reply. "Uh...yeah, I've researched Suicune."

The man's expression changed dramatically, from firm and serious to childlike glee. He released Morty's wrist, only to grab Morty boldly into a firm hug. "Wonderful! Marvelous! I've been looking for ages and I've finally found one!"

Slowly, Morty wriggled out of the man's hold. "So um...have you been to the lib-"

But the man wouldn't stop talking. "I came all the way from Celadon to find you! You're spoken of very highly in your research on Ho-Oh and because the majestic Suicune is said to have a close connection with it. It only stands to reason that your studies would intersect mine! My name is Eusine! I named myself that to show reverence to Suicune!"

Morty wondered if he should back away. But the man didn't seem dangerous, just...enthusiastic.

"Let's go!" Eusine crowed, once again taking Morty by the wrist and dragging him down the walkway. "I'm taking you out to lunch!"

He had to admit, Eusine piqued his curiosity, so he didn't fight it other than to get his hand free again.

Later he had to admit that it was worth breaking his schedule for.
