Travel rant

Kat and I flew to and from the East Coast this weekend (for a reason other than Green Key, unfortunately) on American Airlines. We flew American because it was cheapest at the time we bought the tickets, but it was just awful. Various delays, which I can deal with as pretty much par for the course, but bad otherwise too. Lousy service, incredibly ( Read more... )

So, a poll: What's your least favorite airline and why? Any other travel horror stories to share to make me feel better?I like AA. But then, I fly it trans-atlantic, and its cheap ( ... )

of course it did. the "carry-on" moment is, IMO, the most stressful part of airports. (and i do a lot of airports). since i always carry my laptop, my bag is *always* over the weight limit for a carry-on, so its just a matter of whether or not they check the weight. and if they do, then its convincing them to let me carry it on anyway, or at worst, checking it for free (which, when you fly discount, is unusual since you usually have to pay to check anything, but if you don't check, you enjoy a cheaper flight). i always get a little nervous. but i find that being overly pleasant works, and then, when that doesn't, quickly turning incredibly nasty gets it done.

i also hate that whenever i fly trans-atlantic, i get stopped for luggage checks on both ends most of the time, because once someone sees my passport, with lots of arabic stamps, they put that little mark on my boarding card to have me go through security. bah!

Having just flown on a DC-8, which is in the MD-80 family, I would like to point out another feature that really bugged me: the engines are attached to the sides of the fuselage, which means that the passengers near the rear of the plane have to put up with the loud droning of the jets.

Yup, and guess where we were sitting for Chicago to SF...row 31 out of 32. You couldn't even see out the window because it was blocked by the engine.

I know it's not what you're asking for, but I would rather talk about my favorite airline. I have had nightmare flights, delays, and rudeness to comment on about most domestic and some international airlines- raw chicken on United, left overnight without accomodations by Delta, lies and delays on most of them, late luggage on Northwest, etc. But that being said ( ... )
