Not a unique observation, but still...

...it's always interesting to see the reaction of people who haven't known you for very long (such as, for example, at a new job) when you lapse into Dartmouth-speak. Most react with a mixture of confusion and skepticism, but the look of outright horror on my team leader's face when I said casually "I'm going to blitz Julia" was priceless.

Was he thinking you were going to bombard her with heavy artillery or something like that?

Either that or send the linebackers up the middle to clog the passing lane.

Yeah I remember the first time I did that.

I also ask people to email me things all the time, if they pass me in the hall way and ask for something. Depending on the age of the person, the response is "But I just told you" to which I reply, "Yes, but I'm going to forget before I get back to my desk unless you email me to remind me."

That's pretty common, I thought...I do it all the time, and I've seen other people do it, too.

Yeah, this is common practice so that you have everything down in writing. People do it at my company all the time: after a phone call or a face-to-face conversation, they'll tell me, "Could you send me an e-mail about such-and-such?"

Did he think you were threatening him if you didn't get the job?
