OK, this will be long (so what else is new?), so I've learned how to make cuts...I think! Woo hoo!
I had my latest midwife appointment. Everything was fine, or you can read details
. My quad-screen came back negative. My thyroid panel was normal. Great blood pressure. Fine heartbeat. I asked Becky (the head midwide of the group I'm seeing, not the one I first saw) how I'm measuring, seeing as she didn't tell me, and she said on the small side, but I think the LMP EDD is too early. There are 2 possible dates I could have "conceived" - our anniversary and Thanksgiving, exactly 2 weeks apart. I have a hunch it was Thanksgiving, and that would entail a late ovulation, and it fits more with my implantation bleeding (Dec. 2), hearing the heartbeat late, measuring small on the u/s. Late ovulation would not surprise me, as I was extremely stressed around the middle of the month (my LMP was Nov. 1, and I have boring old 28-day cycles, thank dog). Protien and glucose negative. I got glucola to take for my next appt. on May 31, but I don't have to fast, just no carbs a few hours before the appt. Then I start on appointments every 2 weeks! .
Although I have a pretty good MIL, she does baffle me at times. Mini-rant
. I spoke to her a couple of weeks ago, and they were planning to come probably late August (revised EDD is mid-August); they can make it here with about a week's notice (they are in England, remember). Fine. They usually come for 2 weeks, but my step-mom suggested they stay for a month since they will be traveling in high season. A week here in Dallas, 2 weeks staying/travelling with Dad/step-mom to avoid oversaying welcome, then another week here. MIL wasn't sure if they would stay with us or in a hotel. I suggested playing it by ear as I might want some help. Thing is, I put it badly and said "I might want you to stay here and take over/take charge while I get to know/breatfeed/etc. the baby." Take over/take charge was the first thing I thought of to say, should have just said "take care of the house and Nigel".
So MIL calls me the next Tuesday morning so she can get me before I leave for work and tells me that they can only stay for 2 weeks, will still be splitting time with Dad/step-mom (I think), and since they "will be on holiday" they will stay in a hotel so will be able to see us every day. I was a bit taken aback, to say the least. She obviously was bothered, as she called me mid-week, and she repeated my phrase "take over/take charge" so that must have been the sticking point. And I didn't think that maybe she would prefer not to sleep in the same house as a newborn! I was going to email a vague apology saying I didn't mean anything but ended up deciding to ignore it...whatever she wants to do! But I did call today to tell her about the midwife appt. and gave an apology for making assumptions (that she would take care of me/the house)and that I didn't mean anything by my poor word choice. She said it was all forgotten and OK...and Nigel doesn't believe that, but whatever. My mom had her typical passive-aggressive reaction and told me I should tell MIL "Thank you so much for letting me know in advance so I can let my mom know she needs more time to take care of me". Argh.
Oh, and my step-grandmother will be in N. Texas for her grandaughters grad from grad school and wants to see the house. She has never seen the house...DH and I found out a few years ago she was waiting for a formal invitation, and we thought it was understood she was welcome anytime as long as she gave a bit of notice. Well, the house is in no shape (it's pretty bad messwise) for visitors, but she is willing to pay for a maid service to come once. That's great, and we gratefully acceptted, but we have to pick up first, and that's a major task that I thought we could do over the space of a month or so! I'm taking a break, but will have to get back to it after I look up how to remove candle wax from carpet!
Cookies to those who made it...hmmm...sounds like a nice reward tonight if I manage to get the kitchen clean - picked up, that is! Apologies if the cuts didn't work. They didn't show up in my preview. :)
