A Poem or Song

Once again read the latest batch Cadhla's iron poems made me want to write somthing, so:

I stop and listen as the tide rolls in.
Far away the Selkies sing.
I watch the distant sun go down,
Painted dolls can never frown.

So the in darkness holding
The end of the beginning,
A new story unspinning,
And a china doll alone.

She says the sea is left a broken home,
Darkness breaks free from its throne,
She played her game over again.
Left us to the marching men.

Then calls the mighty leader,
Supposed to bring good cheer,
Though none of us could hear,
The crying of the toys.

They drove away all the children’s love,
Salty water gives a shove.
They broke their dolls without remorse,
Yet left free all mine, of course.

The secrets they can’t amend,
The beginning of the end,
Let’s let the child play pretend,
With her china doll alone.
