Summary: "What place is this?" Ryeowook asked confused while looking to the wild sea in front of him colored with the sun's pink and orange rays, a sea which he had never seen on his life. And he feared, he feared he had left his friends somewhere where he didn't belong to anymore.
The sky above Ryeowook's head was still dark, but looking forward he could see the sun leaving pink and orange rays coloring the sea right in front of him. But even though, the water was still dark and giving a step forward, his uncovered feet touching the cold water, he asked himself if it was sunrise or sundown. However, his question wouldn't be answered, he thought to himself when, by touching that water with his feet and his fingers playing with the sand in the middle of them, he noticed that on his sides, there were two different places. Not different because he had never seen them before as the sea right forward, but different because on his right side the sea had suddenly ended and a big and endless yard was shining with a lot of red flowers and a bright sun above them. Otherwise, on his left side, big trees with leaves falling from its branches, were seeming darker as a night sky was floating above them, the moon shining only enough to show little shadows which scared Ryeowook.
Instinctively, Ryeowook walked backwards, suddenly his feet greeting the soft and warm grass making him to look back to the flawless vision of a spring day. The warm air reached his cheeks and some butterflies flew past him, however, looking back to see where the butterflies went, he couldn't see the big trees and the night sky anymore, not even the sea. It was all a big yard without trees and with more and more butterflies, all in different colors, flying and reaching some red flowers far away from Ryeowook.
"What is this place?" Ryeowook asked to no one, his feet digging into the soft grass as the wind blew his hair back. And suddenly someone started to walk on his direction, his body only a black silhouette against the blinding rays coming from the sun. "Could you explain to me?" Ryeowook asked once again, the silhouette becoming each time more defined, the man's traces each time clearer. "Am I dreaming?" and as he said it, two chair appeared from the floor between them, the mysterious man sitting in one of them, the grass suddenly disappearing transforming itself into a wooden floor while a room, also made by wood, covered them away from the butterflies and the sun.
"Have a sit." the man said with a husky voice, his features showing up; small cheeks, thin lips and yet looking untouchable for Ryeowook. This one didn't think twice and sat in front of the man. "You are dead."
"What?" Ryeowook asked, his heart beating fast which was a prove that he was fine, isn't it? he thought. "How is this possible? I was at my classmate's house..."
"You are Ryeowook, aren't you?" the said man nodded, the other man giving a sad smile to him. "I've been watching you."
"Are you some kind of God?" Ryeowook asked confused, his eyes wandering around the room noticing that blank portraits were covering all the walls. "An angel perhaps? Besides, I can't be dead! Even if I were, I would remember, wouldn't I?" and the floor under their feet started to move along with all the emotions floating from Ryeowook. "I can't be dead!"
"Calm down Ryeowook." the man said reaching to touch Ryeowook's hand and making the said one look at him while the floor stopped moving.
"You feel real!"
"We just feel." the man smiled kindly. "Now try to remember what happened before you being here."
"I... I fell asleep... didn't I?" confusing was drooling from Ryeowook's eyes, his heart, or what used to be one, clenched and his throat felt dry. "I remember I was in my bed... no, I think..."
Giving another clench on Ryeowook's hand, the man looked to his side and he noticed that the room had transformed once again, this time to somewhere Ryeowook had seen before and he remembered, he was at Siwon's house.
Siwon wasn't someone Ryeowook was used to talk with at his college, but when the man asked his help on some of his lyrics, Ryeowook couldn't say no to the man's kind smile and went to his house as the end of the day was already coming. That was Siwon's house. The expensive mobiles, the big TV, the leather couch, everything was as Ryeowook remembered and he looked to the man who was still holding his hand, a sad smile playing on his lips while he kept on looking the place changing itself.
And then Ryeowook saw Siwon entering following by himself, his other self who was alive at that time. Siwon had a smile on his face and sent some grins back to Ryeowook, the memory, who was looking at the room while putting his bag on the floor beside the couch.
"Nice apartment." Ryeowook smiled.
"Thanks, my parents gave it to me." another grin. "Want a coke?"
"Sure."
"You can sit down." and Siwon went to his kitchen, but Ryeowook didn't pay attention to him and walked closer to the wall where some pictures filled it, most of them showing Siwon with his parents in different places over the world, but Ryeowook couldn't help but gaze at some pics with only Siwon and a man, both hugging and smiling at each other.
"It was you there?" Ryeowook whispered looking to the man beside him who was gazing blankly at what was happening with the other Ryeowook.
"Here you go." Siwon said appearing from his kitchen and handed Ryeowook one of the cans.
"You look really happy on these ones." Ryeowook smiled pointing to the pictures with the couple on it.
"Yes. But you see this picture?" Siwon asked pointing to another one where he was with a woman, her arms hugging Siwon tight while posing in front of one of Disney World's entrance castle. "That travel was funny. My mom and I were waiting for my dad at our hotel room, but he wasn't coming and my mom was absolutely sure he was around dating someone and when he finally got back, around 2am, we could smell the alcohol coming from him and my mom even found some lipstick marks on his neck and shirt and she was so furious with him I thought she would kill him!" Siwon laughed, but Ryeowook was still serious, his gaze leaving from the picture to Siwon.
"And did she kill him?" Ryeowook asked innocently, his spine shivering noticing something darker on Siwon's eyes.
"She didn't. But since then I think betrayal isn't something someone should do."
Ryeowook, the "real" one watching all this, stood up from his chair and gave a step back, his hand squeezing hard the man's, never letting it go. He still remembered what Siwon had said, how it sounded slipping from his mouth, his words full of anger.
"That's why he isn't living anymore. I just had to... He looked at someone, he wanted someone else besides me." Siwon's eyes looked like entering on Ryeowook's, seeing all through his soul, seeing how his heart beat was getting faster as Siwon walked closer to him. But when Ryeowook felt Siwon's hand on his cheek, he didn't think pulling him away, actually he wasn't understanding why. And before saying something else, Siwon pushed Ryeowook's head to the wall. "I know he wanted you."
Ryeowook then closed his eyes and fell on his knees on the floor finally leaving the man's hand. He didn't have to see anything more, he didn't want to see the blood coming from his head, nor Siwon taking him to the couch and punching his face and body until he felt numb, until he closed his eyes and then felt the salty taste of sea on his mouth.
"Stop it!" Ryeowook screamed, his hands muffling the sounds of punching coming from that memory. "Stop it."
By then, another voice filled Ryeowook's ears and he looked up, there wasn't Siwon anymore neither it was his house. They were now in Ryeowook's apartment, the one he had shared with Sungmin since he moved to Seoul. And there was Sungmin, anxiety shining on his face as he walked in circles on their TV room. "Where is he? It's so late." he kept saying out loud. "He wouldn't be late. He wouldn't go out. Damn idiot didn't even take his phone." then he stopped walking looking straight to their telephone.
"Sungmin." Ryeowook whispered feeling hot tears falling from his eyes. Sungmin stopped his moves as if listening the low voice from Ryeowook's mouth calling his name. "Sungmin." Ryeowook said a little bit louder, but when he was about to call him again, that mysterious man put his hand above Ryeowook's shoulder making him look up.
"You shouldn't hunt him." the mysterious man said while Sungmin went back to his tracks and took the phone on his hand saying something about police. "This will only make everything harder for him."
"But I don't want to let go." Ryeowook cried. "Besides, Kyuhyun would go to our apartment and... I've always loved him."
"You must let go in order to rest in peace, Ryeowook."
"And what are you doing here? You didn't let go either, did you?" Ryeowook said sitting on the floor followed by the other man. "Besides, were you the guy Siwon talked about?"
"Yes." the man sighed. "I'm Yesung."
"But he killed me because of you! Why am I on it?" he asked confused, tears no longer falling while Sungmin was still talking on the phone.
"It's been two years already." Yesung started, his voice cracking up a little bit. "You might not remember, but we've seen each other before. Actually it was only a short talk back in Japan. You were lost and I was just kind for helping you. But Siwon kept on his mind that I was flirting with you and then his obsession started to grow up after I started working. It got to a point I couldn't even get out of his house." and then Sungmin's apartment was divided, in one side he was turning the phone off and walking back to the couch, the yellow lights giving a warm feeling to Ryeowook. However, the other side turned into what Ryeowook knew it was Siwon's apartment, the miss of lights making it to feel so cold; specially around Siwon who was sitting on the floor, staring at a picture on his hand while his clothes still had hints of blood and coke, but Ryeowook was no where to be found. But the thought of where his body could be or if someone would find him were hunting him until Yesung started to talk again. "One day I tried to scape." and then Siwon threw the picture away as if also remembering and listening to what Yesung was talking about. "Then he killed me." Siwon left the room and slowly his apartment disappeared by transforming to Sungmin's place again. "I don't blame him anymore, I just want to finally see him on peace."
Ryeowook didn't have anything to say back as he was still scared. But if Ryeowook knew something, was that he didn't want Siwon to be in peace, he had taken his life; in which way was this fair? Why would Siwon deserve peace when neither him nor his friend, still worried about him, has it? And Ryeowook was scared because he felt something starting to grow up inside of him. He had never felt it before, but revenge is something you can only appreciate when something important is snapped away from you. Is a feeling you can never contain, is even worst than love about controlling, but it doesn't feel as good as love does.
But his train of thoughts was broken when someone rang Sungmin's bell. Ryeowook could see a hint of hope on the man's eyes, but when he opened the door, that hint was replaced by frustration and even anger.
"You must be Kyuhyun." Sungmin said, Ryeowook raising from the floor and standing beside Sungmin looking right to Kyuhyun, he was still as good looking as Ryeowook had remembered and he smiled seeing that the man was holding a bouquet full of red roses. "I'm sorry, but Ryeowook still hadn't come and I'm dead worried to talk with his dates." Sungmin said a little bit roughly after Kyuhyun had nodded.
"Wait!" Kyuhyun hurriedly shouted stopping Sungmin from closing the door on his face. "You must be Sungmin then. But where is he?"
"That's why I'm worried. I don't have any idea, his classes end at 5pm, it's 11pm and nothing." Sungmin said in one breathe looking down to the floor and covered his head, that was spinning, with his hand. "I really don't know what to do anymore."
"Have you called the police?"
"Yes! They say they are coming here, showing some pictures, asking for some of Ryeowook's."
"I could wait with you." Kyuhyun said, his eyes also showing a hint of desperation.
"No, you..."
"Please." Kyuhyun begged cutting Sungmin off. "Ryeowook begged me to come here."
"But..."
"Mr Sungmin?" Looking beyond Kyuhyun, Sungmin saw three cops with some papers on their hands and Sungmin felt apprehensive enough. "We want to talk with you, but if you are busy..." the cop who was in front of the others said when he noticed Kyuhyun was still holding a bouquet.
"No, please come inside." Sungmin said and the police men entered, but Kyuhyun didn't move at all until Sungmin looked at him, his eyes suddenly begging so Kyuhyun would enter and not let him alone.
"First we want you to see some pictures." the cop said when Sungmin closed the door, Kyuhyun standing beside him.
"Ryeowook, you wouldn't like to see this." Yesung said taking Ryeowook's eyes away from the cops to himself, the only man who could speak to him.
"I must." Ryeowook said weakly while the police man gave Sungmin one of the papers with a picture at the top of it and Sungmin received it with shaking hands, his eyes already looking the picture of Ryeowook's dead face a little bit unconfigured, but nothing could hide those full lips of him, nor those high cheekbones. Sungmin's eyes were already releasing its tears while Kyuhyun, also seeing the picture, gasped and clenched the bouquet on his hands.
"Who had done this?" Sungmin asked not louder than a whisper, but still audible. "Who?!"
"We still aren't sure. He was found dead on an alley. He only had his clothes on, so probably an angry thief approached him and your friend, Ryeowook, refused to give his stuffs." The cop said with a small smile on his face. Not that he was happy seeing a life fading away like that, but that he could at least had figured something right, something to make the two guys in front of him a little bit better. Even though it wasn't the right thing.
"No." Ryeowook whispered, only audible for Yesung who had sad eyes facing him. "They should know Siwon did all this!"
"Things don't happen this way Ryeowook." Yesung said walking to him and putting a hand on his shoulder. "We aren't allowed to do anything on their world anymore."
"But... Sungmin!" Ryeowook called, but he was still focused on the cop who started to talk with him again.
"No sir, Ryeowook's parents don't want to see him anymore." he answered, his voice weak, his legs shaking, the tears falling quietly over his face. "I should've taken care of him."
"Kyuhyun!" Ryeowook shouted getting in the middle of them and touching his shoulder, but Yesung was fast enough to hold him back before his fingers even felt the warm of that body. But it was as if Kyuhyun had felt something, as if those round eyes had looked right to Ryeowook's and Ryeowook was almost sure he had seen his own face printed on them, but soon he was replaced by Sungmin who was looking desperate for some sort of comfort, looking for anything.
"You can't touch them." Yesung said, his arms strong around Ryeowook's waist. "It will just make things worst, specially if you want to stay. Then they won't let you go either."
"But I don't want to go!" Ryeowook screamed trying to take Yesung's arms away. However, Kyuhyun looked like he had heard something beyond Sungmin's apartment, the voice that didn't belong there anymore.
"I can't believe." Sungmin cried taking Kyuhyun's attention back to that room, he heard the cops saying something about taking Ryeowook's body later and that they are terrible sorry before they left the apartment. "I can't believe." Sungmin said again, the papers were given back to the cops, so his hands were closed into fists, his face red from crying, his chest arching and his sobs now the only thing echoing at the apartment. Kyuhyun didn't know what to do, but then Sungmin felt himself getting numb, felt himself empty and almost fell in the floor if it wasn't by Kyuhyun who, still with the bouquet on his hand, held Sungmin by his waist, the other putting his arms around the man's neck and sobbing even more. Kyuhyun didn't realize when, but when he did, he was already crying together with Sungmin. Not that hard, still without sobs; because in the end, it hurts more to know someone you love is gone than someone whose love you were just willing to accept had left.
Ryeowook wasn't shaking anymore, but Yesung didn't let go of his body as he slowly made the place around them to change into a forest, Kyuhyun and Sungmin being the last ones to disappear. But instead of a scary forest, this one had bright orange colors indicating that this place was close to the autumn, but yet, it was still warm as the sun's rays were still clearing the ground and all the trees.
"You shouldn't do that again." Yesung said finally letting go of Ryeowook and walking away. Ryeowook could just stand there, but he was scared he could be somewhat lost on that place.
"Wait!" Ryeowook shouted drying his tears away and running behind Yesung, not taking too much to finally catch the man. "What if I do it again?"
"He might think he is crazy for listening to you and he will live as if you are still alive." Yesung answered with a bitter tone.
"Did you do it with Siwon?" Ryeowook asked, but he needn't an answer while Yesung kept on walking pretending he hadn't heard anything from him. "Where are we going?" But before Yesung could answer this question, Ryeowook fell on his knees hurting them -which amazed Ryeowook. "Why can I feel pain?"
Yesung sighed and walked back to Ryeowook who was still laying on the floor. "We are going where you should've been for a long time, you should let go. And yes," he said pulling Ryeowook up. "you can still feel pain, but they are just pain, nothing that concrete nor that real."
"How do you know it?" Ryeowook asked curious when he was already up, his knees still aching a bit and Yesung still holding him.
"I tried to kill myself." Yesung laughed, a cold laugh, letting go of Ryeowook when he was steady and walking again being followed by the other one. "But how can you kill a soul who is already dead? It hurts as well, indeed."
But suddenly the trees were no longer there and were replaced by a big yard covered with snow making it harder for them to walk. And by the middle of it, a door appeared from the frozen and dead grass standing there by itself.
"Where does this door lead to?" Ryeowook asked curious, Yesung still walking and being followed.
"To your peace. Go in there, face your fears and rest."
By the time they got close enough to the door and finally saw the number impressed on it, Ryeowook froze on his steps. Those numbers sounded so awkwardly familiar making his legs shake. Yesung, who didn't stop walking, looked back when he was already beside the door and realized Ryeowook wasn't following him anymore.
"I can't enter in there." Ryeowook whispered, he wasn't crazy for entering Siwon's apartment, not when it meant to face his fears. Not when he knew Siwon was there looking for him. It was like entering in a dark forest on a raining day and knowing horrible animals were waiting for you to rip your flesh off your bones.
"It's the only way of leaving." Yesung sighed.
"But I don't want to go." Ryeowook said, tears suddenly, yet slowly, falling from his eyes.
"But you must."
"But you didn't go either." Ryeowook argued back, his breathing becoming erratic.
"I still have things to do about Siwon. I'm too guilty to go away."
"So do I! I still have something to do too. If you can stay, so can I!"
"It doesn't work like this." Yesung sighed once again.
"Of course it does." Ryeowook said stubbornly and gave his backs to Yesung walking away. He didn't know where he was going to or in what that world could transform itself into. But he just wanted to run away, to stay away from his fears, to not face that door anymore.
But while walking Ryeowook could still hear some sobs and cries and he was sure they belonged to Sungmin, his best friend for so long and Ryeowook left him. Only if he hadn't trusted Siwon that much, only if he hadn't accepted to help the man. His mind was so filled with ifs that he didn't notice the place he was walking was now a long room with wooden floor being completely lightened by the sun's light coming from the open windows. And right in the middle of the room, there was a piano, it's keys waiting for Ryeowook to touch them, and the man didn't hesitate. He ran to sit on the bench and his fingers soon started wandering on the keys making a soft melody come out from the piano and fill the room together with Sungmin's sobs, still clear on Ryeowook's ears.
~~
"I'm sorry for this Sungmin." Kyuhyun said. They were both on the floor, Kyuhyun hugging Sungmin who was still crying loudly on the other man's chest, his body shaking between Kyuhyun's legs. "I can't believe this really happened." his long fingers passing on Sungmin's back trying to comfort the man in a way he knew he would never succeed.
"C-Can you... s-stay... here?" Sungmin asked between sobs, still watering Kyuhyun's shirt.
"Of course I can."

Part 2 AN: This might slightly ring a bell on you guys to a movie called 'Lovely Bones', but I wanted to give a try on this plot.
it also might sound a little awkward by how much the place where Ryeowook had found himself changes, but I just think it's amazing and I really hope it's not a mess of words and that you can enjoy the descriptions XD
Another thing I want to clear up is that there will be more kyumin next LOL this just had to be very precised about this "world" and everything else :3
oh, and my week is so full I can't even breathe, so I'll probably post the next part just in about a couple of weeks, sorry ;a;
and yah, hope you enjoy it ^^~
