I'm slowly working my way out of this funk I've fallen into of late. It's like clockwork, this feeling. I try to brace myself for it before leaving for my dad's house, but the aura surrounding fundamentalism is so overpowering

This post ... hmmm. A long, long time ago I had literally prayed that another about your age would manifest the courage you speak of here and would not dump me as a result. No dice. She married instead a fundie pastor and I was crushed--for years.

One cannot reason with a fundamentalist. This is like saying one can reason with a book. For all fundamentalists ultimately ascribe their consciences to a book, to a dogma, and shut out the rest of reality.

I have no answers for you, my friend, but allow me to express my complete admiration for what you are considering.

And yes: pacifism can only go so far.
