Really into Science Fiction books at the moment. I feel really stupid that I used to hate people who read science fiction as I thought they were trashy =\ But some of the more intellectual books I've read recently have been sci-fi. All really old authors but *shrugs*

Need some recommendations!

Okayokay so the Animorphs series by K. A. Applegate is technically geared at teens/young adults, and there are admittedly over fifty of them (but each one's tiny, seriously, like an episode of a TV show), but they are so, so good. I could talk for hours about how underrated Animorphs is. This bunch of teenagers witnesses an alien crashing into an abandoned building site and when he comes out he gives them this power to morph - to turn into any animal they've 'acquired' through touch for two hours at a time - before these other aliens come along and murder him. These other aliens are in the process of taking over our planet by turning humans into hosts - they're parasitic aliens - and these teenagers use their new powers to fight back, basically. It sounds kind of lame, but it's actually a super painful story of guerrilla war and horrible decisions and stuff being thrust on these kids who are way too young and have to grow up way too fast and can you tell that I have a lot of feelings about this ( ... )

Can't go wrong with anything by Isaac Asimov, Ursula K Le Guin, China Mieville or Orson Scott Guard. Also the classics ... 1984, slaughterhouse five, hitchhikers guide, cats cradle, war of the worlds.
The thing is there is SO MUCH science fiction and most have trashy covers/names its difficult to tell what's 'good', best to just keep picking them up (from the library) til you find one you like :)
