gray skies are going to clear up...

One year ago I had a request to let my hair return to its natural color. It has taken a year for it to return completely to the ends but now that it has I have to say that I HATE it! And I am questioning the motives of the person that wanted me to let it grown out. I am going to give it a month to see if it gets any highlights from the sun and " ( Read more... )

I'm not sure how I'll feel when my hair starts going... but I'm sure I'll follow much the same route. Plus, I just like having an extra flash of color anyway. ;)

Depends on how short "short" is. When mine goes REALLY short, I add mousse and flip my head upside-down to blow-dry it as straight-up as possible. Then, with some spiking glue on my fingers [and my head still upside-down], I run my fingers over the tips of the hair until they start clumping together in spiky groups. Detail in the mirror, spray with lacquer hairspray, and yer done.

I use a similar, slightly less intensive, version of this process as my hair grows longer, until I just use mousse and a quick fizz of hairspray.

...and, I really miss mowing the yard for some reason.

Mmmmmmm... freshly-mown-grass-smell....

My short is probably close to your long. It is about 1 1/2-2 inches on the top. It was suppose to be about 2 1/2-3 inches I was really going for a shorter back but still about the same as what I had before on top. The sides are much shorter than I had planned on also. But it has been really humid here and it felt really good to have my neck exposed.

Spiking glue?? Brand and name?

Ciros edged and mowed while I was working on the flower bed (formerly the garden) this morning.

Well, I probably wouldn't do a true "spike" at that length, so don't worry about the spiking glue... just find a decent looking medium-hold gel. LA Looks is a decent brand I've used before.

The best way to figure out a look is to play around and experiment. It took me months [and many bad hair days] to get the knack of getting "my look" down on a semi-regular basis. :/ Using the head-upside-down method is the best I've found at getting poof & spikes at the TIPS of the hair. For longer hair, I put a tiny amount of gel on my fingers and run it through the base [like a mousse], so it'll have a bit more body... and then clump some of my bangs/strays together [massively textured hair for the win!]. Gel is also great for keeping cowlicks in check... when your hair is in the in-between stage. ;)
