Because Gojyo's post just reminded me!

So this website is awesome and has a lot of translations and yes. Anyway, there's a translation of a Saiyuki drama CD of a fan novel, which briefly talks about how Hakkai and Jeep meet.

Yes to the drama CD!

I'd say you should feel free to do whatever you want with Hakkai's past, including the meeting Hakuryu part, even if it ends up contradicting animanga canon. And drama CD bits can be treated as canon or not as far as I'm concerned, whatever works best. I'm enjoying reading all these translations too~.

Hakuryu not only doubles as transportation, but triples as an extremely effective alarm. :D

(Hakkai nearly suggested having Gojyo be a tiger permanently, because he was so warm and fuzzy. =3 )

...I bet Hakuryu and fuzzytigger!Gojyo would get along. Hee. Better than they get along when Gojyo's in his normal form, anyway and trying to seduce Hakkai.

Sounds good! If Gojyo ever has reason to mention it in-game, I'll go with that backstory then.

I think of it as primary and secondary canon. The manga is the primary canon, because Minekura wrote it, and I try not to contradict that (unless it would be funny!). The stories she posts on her website count too. Anything not written by Minekura (the anime, novels, fanon) is secondary canon and I don't worry as much about contradicting it.

So basically I agree with Gojyo-mun, you should do whatever you want about the way they met. :)

Back again after reading the whole thing. The way Gojyo looks after Hakkai is so cute. I'd love to get the mp3 if you can upload it.

I liked this bit in Part 7:

Gojyo: I guess that's ok. I have no choice, at any rate. That being the case, What's up with that? Over there, that self centered, air of importance carrying bastard!

Hakkai: That's Sanzo.

Gojyo: I KNOW THAT! Why the hell is he here?

Sanzo: There isn't any coffee in the temple.

Gojyo: You bastard...

The primary-secondary canon makes sense, I think I'll follow your lead on that.

But I think I'm gonna go with the fan novel, just because it has better theories and back-stories than I have now. XD

And that was one of my favorite bits~! I love it when Sanzo and Hakkai play the comic foils. (The other bit I liked was when Hakkai started driving Jeep and is driving horribly. And he tells everyone, "It's okay, I've sat next to someone who's driven and watched. ^_^")
