He's my favorite insane Maritimes Celt. My dad's family are from the Maritimes as well so I can only imagine I have some eighteenth cousins or something who are similarly interesting.
This whole thing is ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with the scanners. The TSA can't see a face. All it looks like is a biology scan and oo, you can see the shape of the genitals. BFD. I actually find the pat down much more offensive, but even it is not like they are copping a feel.
People use to have the same reaction about CCTV cameras 20 years ago. We should just continue doing this and it will blow over. I'd much rather fly in a plane that has been scanned in this fashion rather than not. If we had been doing this last year, the underwear bomber would never have made it on the plane.
You know, maybe having your genitals scoped by stranger doesn't bother you, but it isn't something I should have to deal with. There's no probable cause, and no warrant. This is needless, causeless search by government officials. And worse, they've yet to stop a single terrorist with any of these enhanced security techniques. It's all a waste.
And, yes, it's exactly like they're copping a feel. But they have "procedures" they're required to inform you of so when you're held hostage by the need to travel quickly, they can skirt sexual assault law.
Uh, yeah. I used to LOVE this quote by Franklin. It makes sense from the time he came from. The moment I stopped loving it was when I realized that from a practical and pragmatic view point in today's society, it is unworkable. Utterly unattainable.
I usually fly for conferences/events. I'm working with others to shift said conferences into smaller, localized micro-events. Plus using technology like UStream or WebEx/GoToMeeting to broadcast those events for those that aren't able to travel
Much cheaper than paying $300-some for a flight, plus $25 each way for luggage, plus the rental car / taxi. That $ can then be used to pay for a massage (a "pat down" that I actually want ;) )
