Good answer. When I was in Research class, he was showing us how photos can say so much more than words, and then proceeded to show us a severely starving African child, hiding on the ground with his painfully tiny arms over his head because a vulture is stalking him. I burst out crying and had to leave the class. My fridge and cupboards are always full, and this child is being hunted by scavengers. It breaks my heart that the world is this fucked up.
Oh my gosh videos like that just make me wonder... Here I am struggling with how heavy I am because I eat too much, but I complain that I'm broke all the time?! Obviously I'm well-fed and have a roof over my head, shut up Lara... I know it's all "relative" but... Lately I've been thinking... We should be doing EVERYTHING WE CAN IN OUR POWER to ensure people don't go hungry, or freeze to death in their own homes (this happened in Britian, a DEVELOPED COUNTRY, the past few winters because people couldn't afford heat), etc... But I don't. I go to work, complain I can't do fun things all my friends do, sit in my apartment all warm and toasty with my two cats and my decorated tree and bitch about how hard my life is. So wrong. Sometimes I just want to leave this life behind and try to do God's work...
I have the same thoughts all the time. Just sell everything and go do charity work in Africa or wherever needs it most. Cuz you're right, the world is super fucked and there's absolutely no excuse for it.
That's really sad what you mentioned about Britain, and it happens here, too :( There's always stuff in the papers about homeless people dying when it's like -40 overnight (like it was earlier in the week) and it's so enraging. I know there are shelters downtown, why aren't there enough beds? Why isn't the government doing more to help these people who obviously fucking need it so badly? Like come on, guys. The politicians make six figures and the country's people are dying in the streets.
Honestly, I think if I weren't married I'd probably have done something like this this year. I might have up and quit my job, moved in with my parents & joined the Occupy movement in the Bay Area (much to my parents' horror too I am sure
