when I was reading this yesterday, I thought, "Why are you even bothering to read this book? If after the introduction you felt that it was going to be an exercise in ignoring that pesky 'gotcha' reality, why would you go on further?"
however, at the moment I'm reading Adam's Tongue by Derek Bickerton which I don't think I'm going to come to any agreements with. or at least nothing I can agree on that I didn't already know about. he's a Neo-Cartesian (homo sapiens sapiens stand on a mountain with a gulf between themselves and every other creature on the planet because WE ARE THAT COOOOOOOOOL!) and even if he doesn't like Chomsky (also a Neo-Cartesian and a total jackass across the board in my opinion), I hate neo-Cartesians indiscriminately... mostly because their ability to gloss over massive amounts of information to preserve their views, rather than integrating said information and re-evaluating their opinions is really annoying despite them being homo-centric that gets my hackles up

That inner child brat has been misbehaving so it has been sent to its room without supper.
Actually, I had been wanting to read the book for the perspective into the mind of one of the weirdest political phenomena in a while. I think it's important to expose yourself to the information and analyze it to understand the why of their worldview. Heck, you've said it yourself justifying why you're reading Adam's Tongue, you want to write an article that puts question to the ideas in the book. In my case I want to dig up the ideas, make an opinion and share it.
You do this stuff much more than I do, so gimme feedback and if I'm doing a good job share it with other folks.

I don't know, Pat. I would wait for a better biography. I so don't want to read the self-indulgent crap she came up with. I'd like something with a little more balance.

Well, that's the thing. It's an autobiography, or at least as close as we're going to get so this is not just a tale of her life but also a view on how she perceives herself.
