The hot and humid days and explosive midwestern thunderstorm nights have given way to cool, rainy days, pleasant relief after spending the last week sticking to my chair (and we have air-conditioning, which tells you something both about my cheapness and love of the "fresh air"). Also, my fingers are on fire. Not literally, of course- although ( Read more... )

After reading the articles about wikipedia in Atlantic Monthly and the New Yorker, and after many months of reading little typos in wikipedia itself, I created an account. I'm now a proud wikignome! I've been fixing semi colons and italics and stuff. I think I have a more ambitious edit coming up. The Bioneer entry is structurally lousy (I don't know of any more content to add, so I just focus on structure). The first sentence is atrocious, and I think some of the info from the fourth paragraph should be up top in the first. I edited the last paragraph earlier today, just because there was a mix of commas and semi colons, and it ended with "etc etc." But I'm kind of scared to make changes that are too grand. Fantastic- safety in gnome-numbers! It is good to know that I'm not the only one.

Honestly, I've been thinking of taking it a step further myself, beyond the tiny edits. I just made it through 35 UP, the 3rd to last version of the absolutely fantastic film series, and after surveying the scanty Wikipedia article, I think that any more content would be helpful, if it's even out there. Truly, if you feel like more information would help make the article better, you should do it: you obviously are very conscientious about making changes, so I can't imagine you would be anything resembling a wiki-troll!

Thanks for the thought about freelance journalism. The more I hear positive stories from you (and Babaluma in his past), the more I think I just need to take the plunge and try and write anything for the local rag. After all the proofreading that it looks like I will after all be pulled into doing, maybe I'll be desperate to write something myself!
