You shouldn't feel shame for the new MLP.
It's ridiculously amazing. Not groundbreaking but really refreshing for a children's show. The characters are well round and lovable, the animation is great(despite the usual errors and multiple pony clones) and the music is great.
Also, the fandom can do really amazing stuff, despite getting creepy sometimes.
And its a good thing you had a good time with friends.

dear lord i wish i didn't get curious one night. because now i have such a buttcrush on both pinkie pie and rarity. thing is, it REALLY makes me embarrassed to like the show, out of all the trashy anime i've seen/crushed on. just like you said, i think the show is funny, cute, and one of the few kid shows that makes you FEEL something for the characters. not just one, but all of them. EVEN SPIKE FFS.

Funny thing, most of furries don't consider ponies as such.
And the few ones tend to do amazing stuff as you pointed out.
My only complain with the "bronies" is that half of them tend to be very abrassive toward the whole FRIENDSHIP/LOVE AND TOLERACE thing and they tend to put the show in a golden pedestal, and that sometimes gets annoying. And ponychan is pretty munch what Gaia would be if it was an imageboard. But aside that, this fandom is one of the most creative ones I've ever seen.

Also, I love the fact that you can do shipping on this show just for shit and giggles, since nobody takes it seriously. At contrary of the usual HARRY/HERMIONE or ZUTARA FOREVUUUUR. Eugh.
