Poll Circling the plug-hole A reminder that the the_lj_revival community exists with the aim of boosting interaction on LiveJournal and pointing out its many advantages over the grossly inferior social media sites with which we are all familiar.
these things are fads. i don't know if it will ever be "like new" again. but, people have been saying it's over for years. it's still here. it can come back if people decide to use it again, but since it is a fad, the people who would most enjoy it have already been here and done that and only come back to complain that it's not what it used to be. you need a large new group to start a new fad. they are off doing whatever the current fad is, though. i feel like culture is moving away from long format web interactions. see tiktok and twitter, although they are fads, too, and will probably fade. facebook seems to be surviving the best long term. people leave but come back.
Yes, all the predictions of LiveJournal's demise over many years have proved to be false. Unless some useless organisation takes it over and completely wrecks it, as happened to MySpace (and I suppose that possibility can't be entirely discounted), I see no reason why LiveJournal won't continue to exist. If the current owners are failing to make a success of it, I'm pretty sure they'll sell it on rather than closing it down. I was particularly irritated by the most recent predictions of LiveJournal's imminent demise at the start of the Russia/Ukraine war, and knew them to be false. I saw posts stating that LiveJournal would cease to exist on a particular date and urging everyone to move to Dreamwidth. Sure enough, LiveJournal didn't disappear, and here we are still posting on it. But many were scared into migrating to Dreamwidth. People are evidently gullible and easily fooled

My life has never returned to normal after the pandemic either. I lost contact with various friends at that time and I feel much more isolated and alone now. That's one of my reasons for sticking with LiveJournal and wishing there was more activity here. Then there were the false reports a couple of years ago that LiveJournal was going to close down and that everyone should migrate to Dreamwidth, and a lot of the people on my friends-list went there. As far as I can tell, there's even less happening on Dreamwidth than there is on LiveJournal, but few, if any, of the people who were scared into going to Dreamwidth have come back to LiveJournal. It's very frustrating and disappointing. I will never leave LiveJournal unless something very drastic happens to it.

i like the safety of this site
but it is so domestic1
either positive or negative
it's great to have a place to vent
and i do
but there used to be people who led interesting lives
met interesting people
had different experiences
i admit the pandemic ended some
of my "interesting people and activities"
then i moved and now live in a dull world
