A Quiet Lunch (for Claudia)

I sat in the Compound rec room, taking a breather after a long morning working in the Children's Office. I'd expected to find Zell here, and that we could go to lunch, but he was late. I didn't mind, as it gave me a chance to sit and take my time drinking a little water. Zell was meeting with Dr. Chase, and I believed those sessions were important

Humming loudly, and slightly off key, Claudia wandered into the Rec room, intent on finding a book on electronics that wasn't more than a decade old. Seriously, she was beginning to think that the dumb bookshelves were doing it on purpose just to piss her off.

She glanced around as she stepped inside and grinned spotting Polly. She hadn't really seen her since Polly had found her wandering around that first day. "Hey Polly! What's goin on?"

I looked up. "Oh, hey!" I said. "Claudia! It's good to see you."

She was always so chipper, Island or no Island. I wondered how she did that. But it probably wouldn't hurt getting to know her better to find out.

"Not much," I said, in reply to her question. "I've just finished a stint at the Children's Office. I'm just waiting to have lunch with my boyfriend, Zell."

I blushed a little bit at the word 'boyfriend'. It still felt a little weird announcing that in public.

Claudia's eyes lit up in interest at the word 'boyfriend', and even more so hearing Zelll's name added at the end. "Oh seriously? Boyfriend time is totally awesome," Claudia commented with a wink before moving over to plop down beside Polly.

She nudged Polly's side gently and flashed her a teasing smile. "And Zell? Oh you go, girl. He's super cool"

Yeah, Claudia was someone one should go to when one wanted to feel better about... well, just about anything. "Thanks," I said. "I agree. I haven't had much experience with boyfriend time until now."

My brow furrowed a bit at her comment about Zell, though. "And he is super cool... You met him?"
