1. Local TV news is wretched stuff. They are STILL covering the shit out of the Governor's mansion fire. Nobody gives a shit about this story. Not then, and certainly not now, weeks later. The fire is a boring story. Get over it ( Read more... )

"Average Americans" don't get satire?

Well who's reading The New Yorker? If it's not "average" people, then nothing to worry about. If it is, then there's strong evidence that, yes, the average, too, can appreciate satire.

I thought it was funny, especially given the title. And, as much as I want to see the man elected (and I think he will be), I'm not going to trade my fondness for even modestly Funny Shit in for the (probably vain) hope that it'll help.

Because then the terrorists win.

And I'm not sure it's a magazine's job to do a candidate any favors.

But you don't have to read The New Yorker to see the cover. It's everywhere.

The average American is irony deficient.

It's not funny, really. I'm not offended, because it's a fucking drawing on a magazine ... but it's also definitely not funny. Perhaps it was intending to be, but it missed the mark. It's just ... obvious.

It's a magazine's job to sell copies. If doing candidates favors does so, bravo. If not, that's cool too. If putting up a some-could-say irresposible picture on their cover sells them out, awesome. (I suspect this will be one of the better selling issues of the year for TNY'er.)

But I find it surprising that THIS magazine, which has the unmistakable patina of liberal Democrats smeared all over it, would do something to further cement in the minds of Average Americans the notion, however subconscious or faint, that Obama is a Muslim and a Jihadist-in-preacher's-clothing. Surprising, that's all.

1. I'm glad that local events are so deadly dull that they have to cover the fire. But I agree it's overdone.

2. Meh. The average American doesn't even vote so I doubt TNY cover will matter much in November. And those average Americans who do heave their ass off of thier ass-shaped couch cushion to figure out where in the hell the polling location is will be doing so specifically to vote for Obama, anyway.

3. An all-around sticky situation. I think I am going to watch Sixteen Candles tonight.

4. I know some Seattle-ians who complain about the rain every rainy day. And my God, it's freaking HOT out.

5. Por que?

6. Michael J. Fox is doing a guest appearance on Resuce Me for 4 episodes.
