Fie, Michael Phelps!!!

Could there be a less interesting "all-time champion of the entire damn world, including China"? This guy is milquetoast to the max. But the media is going to lap it up like starving hyenas for another week or so, and in no time, we'll all be asking, "Micheal who ( Read more... )

You have a body made for ribbon dancing, and yet you're no olympic champ in rhythmic gymnastics.

One of my favorite poems is all about this: how people who might be THE BEST EVER at something (playign the trumpet, physics, ribbon gymnastics, etc.) may never discover their talent because of circumstance.

In other words, there are a dozen guys in America right now who are better swimmers than Phelps, but they're too busy being dead, unemployed, poor, raising a family, uninterested in swimming, neurotic, etc. to know it.

Being "of a certain age" -- I was totally enthralled at the idea of the 41-year old competitor. And it's not like she's curling, or something.

I am old enough to have been watching Mark Spitz win all those medals (and I was, watching)--so been there, done that, sort of.

This is Mrs. Zork, by the way, in case you wondered who "friended" you the other night. Someone's post led me to your NPS posting...
