City Travel

In addition to walking around on foot the City offers a few public transportation options. The game's current stance on "standards" like privately owned cars, motorcycles, boats, etc. is that they should be considered uncommon in the City. Characters may take their time to build these things from scratch, fix up a junked model, or save their money to buy one from a stubborn dealer. Regardless of how it's obtained, the setting of the City definitely does not have much traffic at all, though there are streetlights and crosswalks. After all, you want some protection from that oncoming horse or the kid on the hoverboard.

For the inclined to inquire: the City abides by Right Hand traffic.

As for areas outside of ground traffic, such as air traffic and sea traffic...MIND THE BARRIER.

&the barrier
The City is in the center of everything, the center of the seas, the centerpoint between the heavens and the earth beneath. Any attempt to sail, fly, or drill away from it leaves the City behind you, disappearing along the horizon, only to have it appear on the horizon in front of you. Every surface left behind becomes the surface up ahead. The tip of the Mountain is as high as you fly, turn it over and that's as far below sea level as you go. Escape is just a word here.

&the shadowlands [the 411]
A place between the smoke and mirrors. Every world has different planes of reality and this world is no exception. Welcome to a realm where there's fog night and day continuously covering a block-for-block replica of the City, but really, it is the City. Everywhere, everyone, and everything may be exactly as they seem...and more. Those who travel through here may do so as their true selves (whatever that is) and those who keep treasures may hide them in a shadowy corner. However beware of staying here for too long, passing the twenty-four hour mark will feel horrifically suffocating to the point of death. Maybe that's why the place seems so empty. Maybe it's not just fog after all.

&subway panic [tunnels]
How you get around. The City Subway's network operates throughout the urban and suburban sections, extending no farther than the interior cross-gates. All lines are underground and those who wander the tunnels on foot may be in for nasty creature surprises...or discover a little known path to something special.

&cross-gate [at night]
A set of platforms; one at the edge of the forest on the city border (interior cross-gate) and one at the edge of the forest on the beach border (exterior cross-gate). These are for citizens who want to get to the beach but don't or can't get through the forest. From one end the other opening seems to show nothing out of the ordinary, just forest, but step inside and the other end will lead to the beach. Similarly stepping in from the beach will take you back to the city border. The cross-gates work both ways from city to beach and beach to city, but walking around the cross-gate to enter from the forest's side will do nothing. It will only seem like an ordinary little tunnel. Groups can go together and people who step into the interior cross-gate at the same time as someone steps into the exterior cross-gate will not cause a physical mutation. They will just miss each other completely, never knowing the other had been there at the same time. There are 4 pairs of cross-gates in total directly correlating with North, South, East, and West. Like network devices, the cross-gates continue to operate without fail during a blackout.

We're now using player comments to organize Destinations so players can add, remove, and edit their locations as they see fit. Fill out this form and post it as a comment to the section you want once you've worked out the details of the destination or after you've received mod approval for a destination in question (only some locations require mod approval, if you have questions see Zoning Laws). After that, head over to the Map Entry if you wish to add it to the City Map!
