No strategies....just lots of good luck wishes.

Actually I do have one strategy, but I'm sure you already do it. Find a toy or lovey or something that he really really loves and hide it for a bit by replacing it with something a little less cool. Bring it out about 15-20 minutes before you go to the appointment. It worked for me when my dudes were little, but my guys don't have the hysterical vomiting issues...they just were wicked shy in strange places.

GOOD LUCK!

I was going to say something similar. Let him take any toys/loveys/snacks he wants. Feed him M&Ms or jellybeans or whatever one by one through the test. Hell, make a stop at the toy store on the way and let him pick something out, and promise another stop on the way home if he behaves well. Dan the torpedoes, pull out all the stops, this is important stuff here.

I give DD some drops of Rescue Remedy for those situations. I don't know if Philip would take it.

I don't know how this will work for him, but this happened recently with a child who gets services from our agency. The mom said he failed his first hearing test, but that the doc had come in, taken the kid into an unfamiliar room, and then started the hearing test (bring on hysterics and certainly no response to the sound cues.) The mom got a second opinion somewhere else where the lady came in, played with the child and helped put him at ease first, then did the test and the child passed. Not sure if you can talk to someone before the test and discuss Philip's response to strange places/people and find out if they can have a plan in place beforehand? Also maybe see if you can practice at home with him to 'prep' him for it (read him a social story or find out how they will administer the test and see if you can kind of simulate it at home?)

i think having 100% mommy will go farther than you think it will. knowing his tendency to vomit, i would avoid snacks and go with toys.

also, give him some room temp sprite/7up or clear soda of any kind. it hurts less to vomit something rather than just bile, and you'll be able to calm him easier if he isn't all OOOOWWWW!

and bring a towel.
