Breathing

May 02, 2023 07:58

I just had a frightening experience.  I lay down for a brief nap, and felt my consciousness fading from lack of oxygen.  So I opened my mouth and breathed vigorously, and the feeling went away.  I went back to breathing through my nose, and a minute or so later it came back.  So I got up ( Read more... )

I do have sleep apnea, and I do have a CPAP machine. And I do have health insurance, but it's through Malpractice Central, Kaiser Permanente. (They were pretty good 20 years ago, started the downhill slide about 10, and it started getting stinky around 2018.) And it's Medicare, which means while I do have options, they are more theoretical than actual.

Sleep apnia is awful. Buddha had it and he had to look like a sea monster at night. Lol!

Might need to wear the CPAP for naps now. Better safe than sorry. How scary.

Glad you are still breathing! Sending you good wishes from afar. ((Hugs)) if you’d like em too.

Hugs always welcome. It's been a while; is "afar" still where it used to be?

In this case “afar” is in Belmont CA, just south of the San Mateo Bridge. I moved here in June of 2020 (Yeah, THAT was fun), from San Mateo, where I’d moved after selling my home (San Leandro) in late 2017. So, more or less where you remember but probably not the exact location.

A lot of the time during the past 5 years I’ve been outside of Memphis TN, dealing with parental health and housing issues. They are both still alive, and both living in different rooms in Assisted Living (Dad), and Memory Care (mom), in the same facility.

You still in OR?

Still in Oregon, now in SE Portland. Hoping to not move again for a very long time; have a place picked out I want to move *to* (https://www.kailashecovillage.org) in the event that becomes necessary. (Currently I'm a mile and a quarter ENE of them.)

Hello there! Long time no see!
Do you have the option to go on oxygen? That seriously sounds like you ARE low on O2 and are cyanotic. I found out i have a heart & lung disease and that's what i feel like when i weake up in the morning and have accidentally lost my breathing nose cannula somewhere. Huge headache, feeling lightheaded, weird eyesight things. We don't want you to die! Please have yourself checked over. You must be covered for a doctor's visit, yea?

The breathing problem turned out to be a one-off; it didn't recur.

Haven't heard from you in a long time; it's good to be back in touch. My email and phone are still the same, and either would be a better way to stay in touch. Please do contact me through one of those, or ping me here again if you've lost 'em and I'll refresh your memory.

*Hugs*,

Joel
