apropos "the minefield that is the Rev Jeremiah Wright"

it's always a good idea to check the original source, especially if the quotation/fact/allegation is in any way contentious.  when i was reading final proofs on the paper I used to check anything that sounded in any way surprising or unlikely.   very often - FAR too often - i would discover the writer had either misunderstood the original comment ( Read more... )

I Thought... publius_aelius March 29 2008, 15:24:17 UTC
...that Obama clearly said that he would not turn his back on Jeremiah Wright and that a number of the things he'd said were completely understandable, when considered in context.

Obama IS already taking heat for that position, both from Hillary Clinton and Fox News, and I think that's ample demonstration of his readiness to take tough positions as a leader.

On the other hand, some of the things Reverend Wright has said (such as his conpiracy theory about AIDS) are clearly NOT in the spirit of the "prophetic" black church or of Martin Luther King, Jr.

happens all the time with Catholic stuff - Pell is always complaining that the SMH has it in for him and I swear, it's true. he's not being paranoid.
He gets misinterpreted all the time. i've found it v shocking - it's all out hatred, like say whatever u like/misinterpret however. there's no accountability.
i mean, i'm only there for the outfits and pretty buildings, but it still shocks me that all-out hatred can be given so many column inches unchallenged.
it has really shocked me and am used to seeing minorities misinterpreted through "ignorance" but this is just plain hatred cos a few journos got spanked by nuns when they were younger or something.
*end of rant*
(I can't rant this on my journal - am under pressure already to shut up about catholic stuff cos have been catching up with LJ friends in person. It's interesting when minorities turn on other minorities.)

sorry, it shouldn't have put "It's interesting". I seem to remember u saying: "U shouldn't have to spell it out. It should be evident."
