Staff that get paid a generous amount, for a start.

Amenities that don't cost extra to use or access. Personal chefs. Rooms where you can cook your own stuff if you want. Breakfasts included at the very LEAST. Hell, I've stayed at two-and three-star motels that include a buffet breakfast with the tab.

Given the price tag, though, I would think that the place would be classed as a five-star hotel, which means that you get the privilege of paying for pretty much EVERYTHING on top of the already exorbitant room fee.

For $5k, I'd want an experience that had everything already set up with no concern about extra costs later. Turn up, everything is taken care of.

While in a 5 star in China, which was relatively cheap, they had happy hours and morning teas where they just bring you food - no extra costs, just amazing, but non-intrusive, service.

$5000/night edm September 2 2013, 04:45:10 UTC
At $5000/night I'd expect to be booking the entire facility out (or for a particularly large place, the entire floor or entire wing), in order to have privacy for our group. (You can, eg, book entire motels for much less than that.)

I don't think there's any amount of "included extras" that would cause me to pay $5000/night for a single unit (irrespective of size/facilities/etc); I'd probably be reluctant to pay $500/night for a single unit even if someone were giving me the money.

(But then I'm possibly something of an exception -- I won't even pay extra for "included breakfast". But that's just because the breakfasts are inedible non-food ticklist features, which as far as I'm concerned have negative net value to me.)

I had the most amazing buffet breakfast in den Haag, for equivalent of about $NZ 180. Though at the same time, I paid about that for a place in Amsterdam, it's breakfast was serviceable but plain and uninspired.

So breakfasts are sometimes worth it, but it can be hit and miss.

I've long since concluded that the intersection between "what I'm willing to eat first in the morning" and "breakfast available for money" is an empty set. Typically most things served at "breakfast" I wouldn't ever choose to eat -- hotels/motels seem to be the worst. (I don't eat cereal, or bread, and very rarely want anything like a "cooked breakfast" ever, let alone first thing in the morning.)

So "breakfast included" for me reads as "overpriced". And I always bring/buy my own things for breakfast. I do accept that I'm something of an exceptional case.

(I have sometimes booked rooms with "breakfast included" when it was still the most cost effective option available. I just didn't have the breakfast. That was weirdest at a "bed and breakfast"...)

What EDM said. I once was treated to a stay in a suite at the Waldorf-Astoria, with a silver-service breakfast in bed. I didn't think it was worth the $450 in 1998 money then, and I wouldn't pay $629 for it now. But another friend of mine is a luxury hotel junkie - she treasures her stays at such places and collects them like butterflies.

I'd be fairly confident that they would offer unicorn rides, and would be somewhat disgruntled if they didn't.
