I Am Legend (DVD)
I missed this one at the cinema, and that was probably a good thing, because this is a disappointing one. Will Smith who for some reason is casted to play the lead in Big Hollywood SF Productions (don't ask me why) is The Last Man in New York, along with his faithful dog, and fights subhuman nightwalkers after the human race has gone almost extinct in order to find a cure for the disease.
Okay, lets do good and bad. The scenes from a somewhat abandoned New York are kind of neat, abandoned-city-wise, although how flags manage to stay whole and colorful after three years is perhaps a bit of a mystery. The first 15 minutes or so aren't that bad, until the vampire-zombies show up. It isn't very long. And, well, that was the good things about this movie.
Bad? It is disgustingly and predictably sentimental, complete with pets and kids, the acting isn't up to the task at hand, it isn't very interesting and somehow it feels like you have seen this all before, in more non-serious but also far more action-ish zombie movies. It is like the creators have decided to make a sentimental and wholesome zombie-postapocalypse movie, which is a really bad idea. A terrible idea. And the ending is ghastly but exactly what would be expected, Big Budget Mainstream Hollywood SF-like.
It isn't War of the Worlds-bad, though, so let's say 1.5 out of 5. Still, I'd much rather watch any Resident Evil than this one again.
