go down to the hardware store (or wherever it is they keep these things) and find a home mold testing kit so you'll know if it's a nasty mold and the super can't tell you any shit.

That's not a bad idea. Not all mold is toxic (though for sure they need to fix the cause and remove the mold).

With all due respect, please *don't* just stop paying rent without looking into it further. In MN, and I suspect NY, you can be evicted for not paying rent even if you have a very valid complaint. In MN you need to go to housing court an pay the rent into an escrow account which the landlord will not get until the repairs are made. Problems with the property offer no protection for people not paying rent and, in fact, give the landlord and excellent excuse to get rid of tenants who are asking for maintenance.

ugh I hate that about renting or having to ask someone else for maintainance.

While you're at it though, have a bit of research on eco/mother/baby forums to see if there are good non-toxic mould removers.. because some of the chemicals in normal mould sprays etc shouldn't really be around babies either. Also make sure you tell the fixing dude that just wiping up the mould aint gunna help and he'll have to address the root cause eg too much humidity/damp.

hope things improve Jill xx
