On Manga

I know manga is a much maligned media, and with good reason. Much of it is made for prepubescent girls, is on par with soap opera theatrics, etc. etc. But as with all things, the cream always rises to the top. Nausicaa! Ah... I'm still a huge Miyazaki fan... Manga may be malighned much in the US, but I think it has to do with a derisive view of graphic novels (the medium, foreign or domestic) combined with cultural nuances that most Americans do not take the time to appreciate (which is true for most people regardless of your nationality I think...).

That's a good point ... i think graphic novels are starting to be taken more seriously now. Ruth's brother had to read MAUS in college.
