Dinosaurs on a Spaceship

Goddamit, show, why can't you be awesome all the way through instead of harshing my squee by fucking up important stuff? Cos I hate being such a whiny predictable fangit.

It's not like this was the bloody pirates one. There was plenty of awesome. DINOSAURS! On a SPACESHIIIIP! Crowded TARDIS! Amy can be a queen! Silurian dude! Beach onna ship where the sea is the engines! I liked how it lickety-splitted along, and I am ten kinds of excited by this new 'I just drop by sometimes and occasionally pick up other people and hang out with them' thing with the Ponds, because it's new and clearly going somewhere and I like new things that go somewhere. Also: did I miss any explanation of the Indian Space Agency at the start, or is that a thing too? Love it anyway. Loved the Doctor doing some medical Doctoring.

But, grargh. The gender politics of this episode, omg. Nefertiti is amazingly cool! they tell us repeatedly, before sidelining her for most of it and then handily pairing off with the guy who's a dickhead - since the Doctor turned her down, is that what we're meant to think? Could she not just be a woman who travels with him without trying to get in his tweeds? I know I sound like a boyfan now but it's not the 'urgh sex in my Who, icky germs' thing, it's just that girls can be in stuff without being there for sex. That's allowed. I promise. And the rapey not-even-sub-text of the Solomon line can fuck off out of my family TV show right now. (As can having the villain be defeated by him having his crutch taken away and him falling over. There's this thing on called the Paralympics, Chinballs, ever heard of it?) And it's not enough to have Amy shooting a gun or making cracks at Ridell being a twat towards women as compensation, because you could just write an episode where you've got nothing to compensate for.

(Side-note: I keep thinking about the Fringe pilot versus the rest of S1. Pilot: Olivia the FBI agent is mildly sexually-harassed or flirted with by basically everyone, and her authority/capability is challenged several times because she's female; she proves herself; we learn that she is a badass lady. Rest of season: no one mentions her femaleness because this is 21st century for pity's sake; she gets on with being awesome; we learn that she is a badass lady. THE SECOND ONE OF THOSE, ALWAYS, PLEASE.)

The robots were shit. I like Mitchell and Webb but comedy robots, eh. There's a high bar for comedy robots. WHERE ARE MY GIRL-VOICED ROBOTS, BTW?

Hated the 'balls' gag, loved riding Tricey and the golf ball thingy. And I'm sort of grumpy that the girls got left behind but I lovedlovedloved Amy and the computer so, ok.

Did they explain the cobwebs?

Brian Pond = Shit Wilf. Sorry.

And then at the end he killed the bad guy. Er.

Next week looks amaaaaaazing though. I hope I don't boringly ruin it with hate. :(
