You're surely right - one should not generalize, but what I meant from the "USA point of view" is a certain... well, different angle. Look, I'm from a post-communist country. Generations of people here lived under certain economic and social conditions, which formed their point of view and their perception of what a 'norm' is. For example, the way our state regulates social and health care might seem (and indeed seems, as far as I know from the opinions of several USA economists) pretty leftist to majority people from the USA (who have never experienced the conditions of a communist country), while to us it represents a fairly centrist concept. Our right or center is often more like USA left. Our left is often felt as an extreme left. Many people here feel "conservative", but their opinions are still liberal compared to the western concept of conservatism. The USA is indeed very big in size and colourful in many aspects, but it's general history and background is very different from a post-communist country.
I think I mentioned before that to my (pretty well educated and at least somewhat left-leaning) American friends, Europe is Socialist. Especially the Scandinavian countries...
Haha, so many of the Republicans around here keep telling me that America is quickly becoming a socialist country :P. Ah, American politics frustrate me so much, but never fail to entertain.
