Draw was “officially” born on June 29th, 2097 to Donna and Nathan Garner in Flagstaff, Arizona. His biological parents called him Crispin, and the young boy lived a comfortable, wealthy life on the outskirts of town. It’s when he’s seven years old that his family makes a mistake. Having had marital issues and planning a divorce, Donna and Nathan sent Draw to Mexico, where he could stay with a less-than-wealthy relative for some time. Terrified of this new, if temporary, home and feeling betrayed by his parents, Crispin ran away from the apartment of his aunt and uncle into the local park. It is there, where he runs alone and terrified through the trees, looking like a boy abandoned, that the Revolutionaries take him ( ... )

For the meantime, Draw found himself in a town outside the desert of Nevada, deposited like trash - or a subject the scientists didn't want discovered - behind a library. It was a small town: it didn't take long before someone discovered him and put him in the care of the local orphanage. The matron at the orphanage named him "Draw", an only somewhat unique name in the strange futuristic culture of turn-of-the-century America. For three years, Draw lived under the care of the orphanage. He adjusted surprisingly well, despite his few memories and underlying trauma: though he didn't have many friends and preferred to be alone, Draw appeared happy. He was an intensely curious child who wanted to learn and explore as much as possible; he preferred playing in the windswept outdoors to flashy toys. He liked his matron and the orphanage, though he often admitted he wished he could have parents and a home ( ... )

The Wild Child fled the scene of the crime to the English pastures. He ran the whole length of a bitter hot night, not once stopping, as if to trying to escape a nightmare. By the time the neighbors discovered the nauseating carcasses of Aure and Jonathan, the transformed Draw already covered a huge amount of ground. He wandered through acres of farmland like a ghost - no longer wanting to live, but unable to die - and waited for starvation to settle in. He traveled for no reason, subject to nightmares by both day and night, and wandered into a small town in south England. He witnessed the flat, wooden roofs of slanted houses about to break at the seams; the dirty, neglected environment left behind after international society's moralistic plunge. Delirious with hunger, Draw approached at a snail’s pace and fought not to black-out. Late afternoon, he trudged through the open doorway of a house and collapsed unconscious onto the floor before the woman and girl living inside could so much as say a word ( ... )

Helping Draw to recover into some semblance of his normal self was not easy, and it took a great deal of patience. Lillian was not a perfect woman, but if there was one thing she could pride herself in, it was her patience. For months she treated Draw like her son and comforted him, though Draw barely reacted to the rest of the world and kept withdrawn. But ever so slowly, Draw began to show signs of life. After about a year, Draw recovered to some semblance of normal. If Lillian knew Draw before the murder of the Vladimirs, she would say that Draw was not like his old self in the least, and he probably would never be again. His naivety was gone, for the most part. He knew deeper and darker things than her daughter, Richie, and continually showed mistrust. Over time, however, he adopted the Stein surname and began to live with the attitude of a permanent resident ( ... )

Richie, on the other hand, was Draw's adopted sister and a tomboy at heart, who wore streaks of indigo, blue, and yellow in her brunette hair. Her boyish posture, 'cool' atmosphere, and her interest in all things nature and sports contradicted her mousy appearance. Draw and Richie were not very close, as Draw’s not one to open up to anyone - even his sister, - and Richie had a careless, easygoing attitude. She preferred leaving things as they are as opposed to change, a direct opposition to Draw's natural desire for change. She may have disliked Draw to some degree, though nothing to a lasting grudge or distaste. Curv, the Stein's outdated android, had little of a personality due to lack of maintenance, and Lillian did not have the money to buy extra parts for him. Curv was overly helpful and did not stick his nose into the business of his masters, but Draw, who was not used to living with emotionless robots, found him uncanny ( ... )
