I am updating all my beneficiary info on the new company site etc blah blah....Of course I put Britbear down as the benificairy and listed him as my domestic partner....then file the affidavit with the company that he is indeed my domestic partner....then there was a space to add information about my spouse....but it wouldnt let me enter him as my ( Read more... )

Are they more inclined to ignorance or subtle discrimination?

It could be one of the "splitting hairs" legal issues. Does "spouse" imply marriage? And if gay marriage isn't legal, the form won't accept "him" in the spousal page? It could be fairly sophisticated programming, or just really stupid inflexible programming.

If the beneficiary info is for a 401k retirement plan, then you are "not married" as far as the federal government is concerned. You can leave that money to whoever you want.

If the beneficiary info is for life insurance, I don't know what the rules are in your state (you may need domestic partner's signature to leave it to anyone besides him.)
