MURDER is never right, but...

I've learned to not watch the news.... especially in the morning.  I usually get outraged and James has to bear the brunt of my Andy Rooney-like rants.  He dares not contradict me, either ( Read more... )

AAAAAA FREAKING MEEEEN!!!!!

Exactly why I don't watch the news. Well, that, and I don't watch TV at all anymore:) I even refuse to pick up a paper other than the local culture pages.

I agree that every murder should be taken care of in the same manner. But, I think that this was such a big deal (at least in my eyes) b/c her parents were suspected for SO long of covering up the fact that someone in the family killed her. Imagine having the nation accuse you of killing your own child, and never being able to prove that you didn't. I would want it to be national news if the guy was finally caught. I do know that most of the reason it was initially such a big thing was because she was a beauty pageant queen etc., but the reason I have been reading the articles and such has been because I really never thought her parents did it. I'm happy that her father and brother can live their lives in peace now.

True. I did remark to James that I was curious as to why there weren't NUMEROUS apologies to Mr. Ramsey about everyone labeling him a killer all these years.

Then again... things are STILL very iffy about the whole "confession" of this other guy. Last I heard, at least two people can place him in a different STATE on the night Jean-Benet was killed. He could just be a disturbed person who wants to take credit for something he didn't do.

Still, all in all, we wouldn't have to be hearing about it NOW if not for the weeks and weeks of nearly solid news coverage about the murder and all the on-air speculation about the Ramsey family. I don't think it was all that newsworthy even back then.

yeah all the stuff seems very iffy with this guy. his story seems really unstable. the MAIN reason that they think it was him is b/c he knew sooo much about the actual events that no one knew unless they were on the inside. really, would you be able to remember where someone else was on a specific date ten years ago? I would need documentation of him being somewhere to believe it.

I remember watching it when it happened thinking "little kids die every day. why is she so special?" I guess it's only newsworthy now because it was such a big thing back then. crazy.

I agree with all you say...there's also another factor to this that gets to me...
The attention that is drawn to these irrelevant stories...at least they're irrelevant to our everyday lives, always occurs when the media, paid off by the government, is putting up a story to distract everyone from what's really going on in the world. No telling what's happened in the middle east or what retarded thing, Bush and or congress has done, we're not going to hear about it. It's like Homer Simpson, "What? You want to what?...Oooooh look a butterfly!" We're easily distracted and thanks to them, our attention is focused away from what it should be focused upon.
